In Flames – Ordinary Story Lyrics 18 years ago
stu326: the first time he says "gather the faithful.." does sound like "drown, but that wouldn't makes sense in context:
- "gather the faithful and propose a toast
to the epoch of indifferance"
the epoch of indifference, in this song is not a good thing. someone mentioned earlier, that its sarcasm, and I'd have to agree. "Drown the faithful" so you can "propose a toast to the epoch of indifference" is pretty contradictory, since 'the faithful' being referenced here are the ones comprising the "epoch of indifference"

Either way, kick ass song, and anyone else think this album is full of some really great poetry? Or at least (poetic) stories?

Anthrax – Safe Home Lyrics 19 years ago
to animal, I started out by saying "The lyrics, they seem pretty straight forward. This song seems like its describing someones passion, inspiration, and or love for someone or somethin". So that right there kinda negated your first part of the argument. Let me state, im not lashing out at you, i know that seems very heavily jesus / god like, the fact is, I was raised a catholic. recently though, i have come to the standard conclsion that most faiths (method of controlling population, etc)/ beliefs / views on life are very similar. Also, like you and I stated, its about that someone or something that is dear to you, that you feel confortable with. I simply used christianity as an example becuase of its nearly universal expanse. I tried to make it relate to alot of peoples perspective. I'm not describing myself as a die-hard christian, an atheist, perhaps agnostic thinker is appropriate? But anyway, this song is rocking, and i love you last part about it describing love being the main object of the song. To some people, the phrase "God is love" can be taken quite literally, and Jesus is simply a physical representation of this emotion or what not. Towards the end when i started relating this to chirstianity, this was simply because its much more easy to describe it to most people in something as worldly as chirstianity. Please don't assume I am a bible beater, or narrow minded. Although annoying, I respect them because they stick to their faith. Its the narrow minded people that anger me. not much more can relax and entertain me that sittin on the deck, drinking a beer, smokin a cigar and talkin to my close friends about our different views on life. This song, to me, sums up pretty much the "universal religion": something or someone who strives to love others with all their ability, someone or thing to out all your faith in, some one or something to guide you. I know this seems a little off the song topic, but i feel that animal did bring up a valid point, and gave me a further opportunity to explain myself. Thats whats great about this song, i bet many people of many different faiths can relate to it. granted, im sure many thing the music is to "heavy" or "hard core" for inspirational music, they just havent given anthrax a chance.

Widespread Panic – C. Brown Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song! This song I can never get sick of. The meaning I can relate to so well:
"Charlie really likes his friends
But in his heart he knows that sometimes a dog is as good as any man
Trying to do as we should
That doesn't always rhyme with doing what feels good"
I love it, your friends aren't always what they seem, and sometime you just need someone/something to listen or to be alone. This song does that for me. I crank this song in my dorm when Im alone and close my eyes, just zone out of life and into the amazing music and lyrics.
My favorite part, besides the guitar/piano solo in here is:
"But you can sit in the grass it feels good
You don't even need to think a word
You don't have to worry, don't worry"

Man, that is exactly how I try to live, and how I think summer should be. Kickin it with friends, some beer and some good tunes. WSP is one of the best bands to enter my CD player.

What I forgot to add in the last time, in the first part, this song reminds me of many TooL songs (Stinkfist, Lateralus, and The Patient) and Pearl Jam songs (Black, Alive, Elderly Woman, Yellow Ledbetter) where the lyrics and music compliment eachother so well that it gives you that tingly feel. Anthrax did amazing on this song, and personally think that the style of this album is WAY better than their stuff from the 80's-mid 90's.

Wow, the first time I heard this song was about 4 or 5 years ago on a Sattelite Music station at my friends house. I had to DL this as soon as I got home, and proceeded to buy the rest of the CD, which is amazing! This song is one of my all time favorites, gives me chills, the music and guitar are amazing, cant sasy enough about it. The lyrics, they seem pretty straight forward. This song seems like its describing someones passion, inspiration, and or love for someone or somethin, AKA Jesus. Now, I'm not the most holy person, but I have been goin to Catholic schools since I was 7. Anyway, at the beginning, it seems like a person reflecting on their past life, what they did right or wrong, and then all of the sudden:
"There's a sign post up ahead
Like a watershed
And it opens my eyes"
-Makes me think of a person that you can trust, can help you out, and its obvious this person (Jesus, God?) is meant to be in your life.
"Ways . . . to be born again
And KNOWING for the first time
Ways, all so differently
Shine for me to see
The better man that I am"
-This part seems to emphasise my last idea, this person enlightens them, maybe in a mental, or spiritual sense.
Ways to be born again most likely means to start a new life; have your sins forgiven once you were enlightened to Jesus, or whoever.
"I've been places in my head
Behind me worse than what's ahead"
-So now, this person is thinking about their past, what theyve done or thought that was wrong, and "whats ahead" is saying now that theyve accepted Jesus, or found this new inspiration, their future looks bright.
"And on my path just like a dream
Takes me from the inbetween"
Now, the person is on the path to Heaven, via their accepting of Christ, and this path leads them between temptations and distractions of the world.
"From out of nowhere you came strong as stone
And now I'll never have to be alone"
-Here, the God appears to them straight forward in a time of dyer need, and will always be there to support them
"What it is I know
You have always been my safe home
I walk, I run, I burn out into you"
-The person is admitting that Jesus has always been with him, but he was unaware of it, and everything he does, Jesus knows, and he should serve Jesus in turn.(?)
"You have always been my safe home
My whole world has moved on"
Again, Jesus has always been there for them, but since he is aware of this, his life has turned around, and become a new person.
"I know what i am and I'll always be
Your reality, is better than I could dream"
The person is acknowledging their mortality and imperfections, and admitting that only God is perfect.
"All my fears turn from black to white
And i'd stand and fight
The whole world for you"
So, now this ties into how Jesus/God helps them understand his fears, which are important or not, and in turn this person is going to serve God and worship him for all that hes done.
"Faith, and destiny
I never did believe"
This person never believed in faith or destiny (going to Heaven) before he met God
"My only god is love and
Faith, what I see in you
And I can hold it true
Like a weight in my hand."
-I like this alot because it makes the analogy of object that has no material or physical value (faith) and compares it to a weight, something you can feel and touch. He's saying now that he believes in Jesus, his faith is real, and the mutual love is a product of this faith.
At least, this is how I interpret it.

Journey – Stone In Love Lyrics 20 years ago
Man, I have the Escape album on Super Audio CD and you don't know what you are missing until you hear it opposed to normal, Ross Valory is amazing in this song, the soundstage is so "visible" and present in this album. The re-mastering is amazing. Anyway, this song is my favorite off this album, it's such a feel good song. The words seem pretty obvious, like most Journey songs, they're about Steve Perry's (or whoever) crazy love and passion for someone. I just like how vivd his descriptions are, and the solo/breakdown gives me goosebumps. This is a great song, and if you have a SACD player, buy this album now. The vocals are so clean the hair will stand up on your arms at high levels.
