the ship in a bottle metaphore represents the innocents of youth, and as youth we are enabled to be open minded about things which dont necisarily make sense and when we do become a cynic about these things we 'have to grow old'. The seemingly immposible ship built in a bottle is an example of one of these things which is much better to believe it was (impossible) built in a bottle, and when we grow old we rationalise and it is known that it was made someother way.. think this is what he means, if not then.... someone else have a go |
