Meat Puppets – Station Lyrics 20 years ago
I believe this song could be about life, and how confusing everything appears to be, at least at first. Sometimes it can seem that every thought you have, at least to me, has two sides to it, and the song appears to be about the difficulty in deciphering which side is which, not necessarily if its just good or evil, but what exactly each thought is in itself. It becomes especially difficult when just as you think you may have one thought figured out, another comes along and presents yet another question of what it actually means, and before you know it, you could have ten other thoughts as well to decipher, therefore making them appear to be Lincoln Logs, or stacking up on top of each other. Some people may offer you advice on how to decipher these thoughts, but often enough they don't make a lot of sense, and could be almost as if they are saying to you "Melt some wax and chunks of tin, forget your name, how to walk and ignore, the light shining in from under the door." I think at the end, what it all boils down to, make a promise, grow teeth (in adolescence), go to bed, (throughout life), and wake up when you're dead, (when life ends), meaning that this process exists throughout life.

Meat Puppets – Comin' Down Lyrics 20 years ago
I could be wrong about this, however, to me, the song applies to the media, and people who get worked up believing anything the media tries to portray to society, based on what their opinions are, presenting them as fact to the general public.

To me, the song is about getting wrapped up in believing what the media says, but only so far, in that you still know that no matter how far wrapped up you get in believing the hype and over sensationalism, you know if it becomes just TOO much for you to believe, you can always "turn around and climb back down."

It could also refer to, not just the media, but hype put out by any sort of political or fanatic members of an organization. They consider themselves all-authoritarian and all-knowledgable, so much that they go out of their way to get people to "climb up the mountain with them."

You'll notice the various references in there, that I believe, helps support the meaning I've derrived from the song, such as:

"I have seen their information
On the lighter side of dumbness
I have heard the new statistics
And the stomping on the ground"

"Going down to the desert
To the dirty filthy desert
I'll be crawling through the sand
For at least a couple days
Going down to the desert
ther are things owrth avoiding
And it always makes me cross
When those things get in my way."

The desert, could refer to being forced to have to listen to the hype and such that these groups put out, in order to accomplish something for yourself, but you know they are going to put forth obstacles in your path in order to push their own agenda on you, and it can get pretty frustrating when that happens.

Thats just my interpretation though.

Meat Puppets – Roof With a Hole Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, Roof with a Hole is about people in general. Sometimes people have a tendancy to lose their sense of self, either through relationships, or through any natural event. Hence, a roof with a hole, is about your sense of self, and the rain coming in is whatever issues or problems you are trying to deal with at the time. When you have a "roof with a hole" the problems seep in and wash away your sense of self. The second verse applies to trying to get people to realize that it happens to everyone, not just people who have nothing. You could be rich beyond your wildest dreams and still lose your sense of self. Hence, "there may be diamonds in that dream on the hill". The third verse is about, how difficult it is to get a grip of reality and common sense once those problems are coming through and washing away who you once knew to be you. The song is meant to put to words those feelings, thoughts, and sensations.
