| Does anyone know whether the sampled audio clips are genuine or not? If they are real, do you know where they come from? | |
| Amy Winehouse – Back To Black Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
foundthevelvetsun7 - I couldn't care less about parental warnings on CDs; if Tipper Gore is too prudish or too easily offended or upset by hearing swear words, then that's her problem. And anyway, Amy Winehouse doesn't really make children's music to start with, so "clean" versions of her songs would sound pretty ridiculous I guess, since the subject matter is of an adult nature (relationships, drinking, sex, etc). But yeah, I wish she would be nicer to herself, and not drink so much for example. kiwifruit - You could be right about the Blake reference, but personally I hope you're wrong, because in my opinion it would make the whole song pretty pointless (or at least much less meaningful to me): "You go back to her and I go back to Blake" - Oh really? How interesting... :P Great song! :) |

| Millencolin – Penguins & Polarbears Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
empire87: You should really ask yourself what's worse; a 14-year-old loser or a 19-year-old loser who acts like he's 14. bridgeysheart: If you know/knew he was cheating on you and he still is/was your boyfriend, then you really ought to start valuing yourself higher. Okay, free councelling time is over. Great song, but what there is to say about it has already been said; someone finally even got each species on its correct pole. Well done. |

| Well, PC often stands for Politically Correct, but in this case I have no idea. | |
| Millencolin – Vulcan Ears Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I've never thought of it in the way that oz_van_fan suggested; those lines about "four legs" and all that, they have never made sense to me before, but now it definitely sounds reasonable. The chorus (with "Vulcans ears", "can't you get me beamed up?" etc.) is full of Star Trek references. |

| Nina Simone – Pirate Jenny Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Cris925: I can neither confirm nor deny wether Nina Simone was the first one to sing it in English, but what I do know is that the original lyrics are in German and that the song was written in 1928 by Bertolt Brecht (lyrics) and Kurt Weill (music) for the musical theatre piece Die Dreigroschenoper (The Threepenny Opera). The German lyrics (which I might be able to add to SongMeanings later) are slightly different, but the overall theme of the song is the same of course. It's a great song, and although it's brutal and terrifying I can definitely sympathize with Pirate Jenny, at least as long as her grisly story of ultimate revenge only remains a dream. |

| Alice Deejay – Will I Ever Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Obviously it's not the lyrics most effort goes into when it comes to dance tunes, but I still feel that this one has something worthwhile to say (well, usually I can find a personal meaning in lyrics from pretty much any genre, so I guess it's not so surprising). The topic of this song has been recurring theme in my life unfortunately, on and off since childhood; the latest time was less than a year ago with a girl I thought wasn't interested in me, but now it turns out she might _have_had_ a crush on me too, after all. :/ By the way, I remember listening to this one back in 1999-2000 too; I used to travel a lot by train and almost always listened to the radio where they played it a lot. |

| Morrissey – You Have Killed Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"by Beco on 05-11-2006 @ 10:41:36 AM As far as I knew Pasolini was gay - 'Pasolini is me' Says quite a lot to me. " I agree with Beco on this, especially when you consider the fact Pasolini made a controversial movie based on Marquis de Sade's "The 120 Days of Sodom"... And if you don't know what sodomy is... well... go look for a dictionary. |

| Cock Sparrer – Secret Army Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Alright, I'll be the first to comment: I've never heard the song and I just read the lyrics for the first time, but the feeling I get is that it could be about the IRA and the Troubles in Northern Ireland. If someone knows or has an opinion, let me hear it. | |
| Simon and Garfunkel – The Boxer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
As has already been said, this is a truly awesome song, both lyrically and musically. I've never read the lyrics before until now though, and now the strange lines 4 and 5 of the third verse finally get their explanation. They turned out not to be strange at all; it was just that I've always heard "Just a come-on from the war zone 7th Avenue" and it made no sense to me at all, hehe. :"> |

| Morrissey – You Have Killed Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Another, less literal, interpretation that I prefer is that he's been hurt really bad emotionally. Like sometimes when it feels like you've been stabbed through your heart, and still somehow you walk around, living. In my opinion the last line "Always, I do forgive you." supports this, as it gives a hint that it (might have) happened before. | |
| Morrissey – You Have Killed Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I definitely don't think this is Morrissey's intended meaning with the "As I live and breathe, You have killed me" lyrics, but one possible way to interpret it is that the narrator of the song has caught a deady and incurable disease, and thus in a manner of speaking, is already "dead", while still living and breathing. | |
| Minibosses – Megaman 2 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I can't recall exactly what Megaman 2 songs The Minibosses included in their medley, but the people who composed the MM2 songs were Manami Ietel, Ogeretsu Kun, and... um... Yuukichan's Papa. I don't find anything ridiculous in liking the music in Megaman 2, some of those tracks really kick ass in my opinion. Something I find a bit weird though, is adding a band doing, as far as I know, only covers of _instrumental_songs_ to a lyrics website. |
