In the first verse its a person in hospital, questioning life after an accident, and the right drapes, the right paints part is him recalling how things could have been great, before saying what a great dat to spend indoors
then the other person is calling for them to wake up, possibly in a coma
then its back to the person in the coma, summing up how in a mere few seconds, everything went wrong, and askin himself why everything is like it is now, and how he never expected it to be this way, before the 2nd person calls for him to wake up again

actually I think this is what the song is about;
It is about girls demanding your time constantly. for example, "hold that line, they ask us in safety, when we talk" is about how they wan yout to continue a conversation and listen to them. Basically the first verse explains about a breakup and how 1 of them believes theyre time is being wasted by the other trying to comprimise and prevent the breakup. Next, the chorus explains how he can see the streets he needs to walk to see her, but he is very reluctant and the "my legs cant carry me that far" part is a fancy way of sayin he cant be bothered. The next verse is about him saying that its easy to speak when you can speak, or get a word in, and about how theyre partners put up a front to cover up theyre true personality. Then he ends by saying that the partner was having the time of their life while they were ultimately miserable. Maybe thats all bullshit but its just a thought. |

Charlie said in an interview that the reason the song was called Pahlanukis Laughter is because they are all fans of the author Chuck Pahlanuik and he wrote a book about how the canned laughter you hear in tv shows is actually laughter recorded from the 19so's and they that the people laughing were now dead. So they though the idea of "dead laughter" was cool and used it as a song title, hemce Pahlanuiks laughter. That is the truth! This song is great, and I believe its about a guy confused about how his relationship is going and lashing out at his girlfriend because he thought she knew and understood what his problem was. |
