i'm not sure if someone put this down but I'll do it anyways, cause I don't have the kinda time it takes to read all 10 pages.
"Black then white are all I see in my infancy" in my opinion does have to do with the fact that as babies we can only see black and white, but I don't think thats what he means. I think he means that we as humans look at everything with a blurred sense of sight. Native americans have a technique called Splatter vision that goes into seeign everything around you just by looking at the area. You can usually see 180 degfrees with it. I think he's telling us to use our mental splatter vision and see everything, instead of the left and right of it.
In the bible, it says "what is order above shall be order below" (to paraphrase) which i think is where the line "as below so above and beyond I imganine" he then goes on to say "drawn beyond the lines of reason, push the envelope, watch it bend" which i think is him telling us to push away the things we are taught as children (such as religion which is the metaphor) and to make things the way we want and see them.
The rest of the song pretty much builds off of that. I love the lines in the bridge "with my feet upon the ground I lose myself between the sound, and open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my ski" he says to be earthly, stop focusing so much on the univrse and concurring all, but to simply enjoy the life you were handed.
So the song is about beign yourself and refusing to except everything told to you. |

I'd like to say I agree with i_am_the_eggman, but I'd like to build on it. I believe Corey is talking about the government of today, our society, and 1984 isn't far off from were we seem to be going. The world chastizes us and takes from us our human like quality and teaches us to mass produce the standard "god person" lifestyle. We are manufactured and turned into a "cult" which is brain washed. Think about who the bad people in our society are. The people who are happy and do what they want. The good people are drones who follow precise order and construct. I think corey is saying he won't let his fans ever become liike that. And we morph the bad people into the good ones everytime they try to escape "Take another shot just to stay the same" . He also goes into the hypocrits we face every day "DO one thing and say something cryptic, but the styles always clash" and now we must fight back before it's too late "One thing I know for sure, the hypothetical won't work anymore". I love one of the lines espiceally "this sacrament is sacrelige it's sentimental diety experimental faith is accidental" (sorry for my poor spelling) he's saying that in reality what we fight for should be fought against, it's just pleasing our emotions so we won't be afraid, it's telling us our expereinces as a culture through a textbook instead through the people who know it, and that i nthe end we were never meant to feel this way or have this faith. My favorite slipknot song by far. |

I love it also that when he says "anyone can see my every flaw, it isn't hard, anyone can say their above this all" cause it reminds me how they criticize me and won't let me live my life, but they refuse to admit to their own problems and stand on their pedastal....awesome fucking song. |

I actually don't think this song has anything to do with religion. Judith, as it was said like 3 years ago on this song, could be just someone Maynard knew, or possibly just a random name to inspire us to think it was a real person when actually it was a generic name. Or the name could be the woman who betrayed the armies in biblical times , who knows. And blind faith doesn't exactly mean you hav to be discussing religion.
For me this song is about the media. Think about how the world of celebrities and television, MTV and FUSE, and publicizied lives has changed the world around us. Now think about the negative changes. Bulimia has becoem a serious problem and so has anorexia, for alot of girls have struggled to conform to the general idea of pretty when what they end up being is "broken down and paralyzed". Alot of boys have low self esteem because they don't look like brad pitt or they don't have clear faces or what not. They've been taken for all they had and "left thsi way". And yet Maynard addresses how we did nothing to deserve this. Not the teenagers and kids who are drastically affected by the mind numbing brain draining bullshit that is pumped through the creen everyday to remind us we're nothing. That's what the line "it's not like you killed someone, it's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side" is suppossed to imply. Jesus Chrsit in this case is the ones we as normal everyday people worship because they have everything we want instead of what we need. The celebrities and royality who have nothing to offer but a hour and a half long mask or a 3 cd mask that will keep us from ever thinking for ourselves. I think thats what the songs about. |

For me this song was always like a family unit. Theres someone outside the family unit talking to someone inside, telling him how bad it is, and apparently it's downright horrible. He's telling him he can't ever escape without doing something drastic, cause its come too far to be stoped now. I think the line is actually "call it aftermath" like something horrible has happened and now she is dying "turning blue" but hey thats just me.
I actually think the song is about wantign something that no one wants you to have. he says "Mistook their nods for an approval, just ignore the smoke and smile" which could imply that he is trying to do something and at one point he thought everyone was backing him up and now no one wants h to be happy. And the line "shes turning blue, such a lovely color for you" makes it sound like what he wants is being affected by everyone's mentality and he blames them entirely for it. That's my interpretation. |

I think its about what the first post implied. A kid who's ruining his life. The line bleeding heart perched on my shirt is shakesperean and it means you're putting all your feelings all the table. This kid is oblivious, or at least pretends to be...which is noticeable when he says "ignore remorse" and he effects other people which is obvious in "heave the silver hollow sliver piercing through another victim, turn and tremble be judgemental" but its also obvious thatno one but this person cares aboutthe kid in the line "blind the face with beauty paste, eventually you'll one day know" you cant run forever. |

I agree with villify except i see it as more of a parental figure, an authority. lines like "I will devour you, Take all the pain away" then like the whole bridge make it seem like this authority is keeping them in the dark and never letting anyone or anything hurt them. They blind them and keep them to themselves for their own snactimonious purposes. So no villify thats not odd at all. |

K first there are some lyric problems. It's "Pleasures taken in this life" not "Measures", and it's "REpeat it in my mind", and then the chorus is "Hell is still overburdened How have I been so determined malign"....only reason I say this is cause that what is says inthe liner notes. Anywho
This being my favortie song by disturbed I listen to it alot and I've been really thinking about the meaning, and it being political does make alot of sense. I personally feel however it's about someone who is constently chastized by hypocrits. He leads his own life and enjoys it but makes many a mistake and is belittled by people aroud him making the same mistake. I say the hypocrit part because of the line "Blind leading the blind" and the lines "I was fighting for a reason, holy blessed homicide, seems I have committed treason" because its like he doesnt understand how these people could come at him like this and misconceivehis action and not blame the others around him. But hey that explanation is the best I could think of so yeah, anywho, peace. |

See I personally feel it's talking about how he's hiding from his pain. Like the line "If I can remember, to know this will conquer me" it seems he's trying to deny to himself that he has pain and to know it's there will destroy. And then he's like "To hide behind the mask this time and try to believe" it's like he shut himself off and is hiding behind a "mask" and is trying to convince himself he's ok and fine. |
