I think that the radio_friendly version is better... "Fuck me" line takes away all the emotion of the song. When you say "Have me" it's more emotional, and it implies so much more, than just plain "Fuck me"... There's more to life than fucking, right? |

Hello? Is anyone going to talk about the MEANING of the song? Not about who the fuck is singing... like that matters. Song is obviously about drugs... "begged my landlord for some more time He said son, the bills waiting" first lines talk about him not having enough money to pay the landlord... Money he spent on ... DRUGS "My best friend called me the other night He said man, are you crazy? My girlfriend told me to get a life She said boy are you lazy?" that's followed with a couple of lines that indicate his social problems, viz. with his friends and girlfriend... I think the words "are you crazy" & "are you lazy" were intentionally switched. It would make much more sense if his friend said "are you lazy" and his girlfriend "are you crazy" ... these problems are tipical for regular drug abusers. "But I dont mind As long as theres a bed beneath the stars that shine I'll be fine" And all that's ok with him as long as he has his "bed beneath the start that shine" ... bed, yea right... dude just wants to get stoned... "If you give me a minute A man's got a limit I can't get a life if my heart's not in it" He needs a minute (probably for the drug to kick in)... he cannot live a life if his heart's not in it... that is to say when he ain't stoned like a rock. "I lost my faith in the summertime Cos it dont stop raining The sky all day is as black as night But I'm not complaining" Serious depressions after heavy usage are common, even for light drugs such as marijuana... "I begged my doctor for one more line He said son, oh words fail me It aint no place to be killin' time I guess I'm just lazy" These line are quite self-explanatory... think of the doctor as the drug dealer, and work from that, I'm tired of typing. For me, this song means ultimate freedom... it's about the STARS, and you can't find anything that's more free than a star!! The emotional build up throughout the poem is fantastic... especially the way it culminates in the end with: "Astronomy.... a staaaar" When I'm drunk, stoned or just plain happy, I always quote the ending. In those words I find a way to express what I'm feeling: happines, like I haven't got anything to worry about, and above all FREEDOM.............. |
