I may be way off, but this song sounds like it's about date-rape to me..most likely by a jock. Reasons: Five glasses change my mind (drinking).. My invitation was involuntary dilation and now I cant recall your name (too drunk/drugged to consent..hence involuntary dilation). ..and the last stanza: "Now you're conversations scholarships and occupations. You look so different than before when... Never mind... Anyway... This reckless violation, tarnishing my reputation Has left me nothing kind to say" Jock moves on after raping her..now with scholarships, good jobs, etc.. Her reputation is tarnished. Maybe she's seen as a whore..etc. It kind of reminds me of the typical.. college jock takes advantage of a girl.. no one believes girl.. guy moves on with his life, has it made type of thing. Just my two cents (even though stargazer kind of pointed it out). |

I personally don't necessarily think this song was about sexual assault -- at least I don't think the song was written with that intention. I see it as a person who's been broken by something..perhaps a series of events that have completely taken them down and drowned their soul. They can no longer trust..love..let anyone in. I think this song is written as someone who's questioning that person -- someone who truly cares about them, and wishes they could reach them -- that they could just be let in for a moment so they can show them that not everything is bad. They want this person to find that they haven't really been destroyed..but damaged -- that if they tear down their walls, and search hard enough, they can find their heart again. This is a beautiful song..one that anyone who has raised their walls because of past events can relate to..whether it be a person who's been in terrible relationships..lost someone..been a victim of sexual assault, etc. |

Honestly, I'm not a big pop fan..infact I mostly listen to goth rock/industrial. Anyway, I really enjoy this cover. I think madonna is a beautiful person and has a good voice. Personally, I think the original version is boring. |

I may be wrong on this, but I THINK it's about the break up of jack of jill (the end)..in Jessicka's eyes... and Scarling (the beginning)..the birth of something new. In my opinion 'City Noise' is the problems/chaos that they may have experienced and even created on their own while touring as a band. 'And we tried to change The city noise made us strange So we plugged our ears and learned to fight We set the stage but we could not engage so we cut all ties by candlelight Change, Change, Change' Translation... They tried to 'Change'. Possibly their sound..possibly attitude...music..whatever. Maybe personallity. After a bit they found out that the change just wasn't working for them as a band...it created 'city noise'. Despite issues they tried to stay together, they set the stage..they could not engage, so they cut all ties by candle light ;). Change change change = the beggining of Scarling. |
