| Sufjan Stevens – A Good Man Is Hard to Find Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
A note about this song, and John Wayne Gacy Jr, as they relate to O'Connor. A big aspect of O'Connor's writing, and this story in particular, is the notion that all humanity shares in the guilt of original sin. It is only through responsibility to one's self and to others (which is attained through solidarity in Christ) that the ugliness and alienation brought about by a state of sin can be lifted. In A Good Man Is Hard To Find, the grandmother is brought to this realization right before the Misfit murders her. I've always thought of this song as a sort of continuation of the story, from the Misfit's point of view. I guess this comment is pretty similar to the others. Just thought I'd throw my thoughts in there. |

| The Who – Who Are You? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I could've sworn that I've been told this song is not only about the drunkeness and the Sex Pistols incident. I heard it was written so that one could interpret it as a call to God. | |
| The Who – Sister Disco Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| One of my favorite Who tunes. No clue what it means; it doesn't seem to have any kinda hidden or deep message. Just a good song. | |
| Belle & Sebastian – I Could Be Dreaming Lyrics | 20 years ago |

oh my god such a good song. okay. makes me think: crazy guy, paranoid schizophrenic maybe, decides to kill his sister's abusive husband. i got that it's his sister from the 'family's like a loaded gun' line. everything else is pretty clear. just an idea. goooooooood song. |

ehh, I like The Clash version anyhow. But, yes, the original is superior. Really just a great song. I have 4 different bands singing it on one of my mixes =P |

| The Clash – Death Is a Star Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is Strummer's reflection on how strange it is that people (himself included) like to go to the movies, pay for the ticket, and then watch somebody get murdered on a big screen in all its bloody glory. This isn't just my interpretation, Strummer had said as much. It's a pretty song. Listen to it with only the right speakers on, and then only with the left. (or the other way around). One has piano and Mick Jones, the other has Strummer and drums. I think both have guitar, but it's been a while. And it very well could be about heart of darkness- or at least, kind of. The Clash have referred to Apocalypse Now before- with Charlie Don't Surf. So the dark jungles could in fact be a reference to that movie, based on that book. There yeh go. Good song. =) |

Another Clash song about general misery brought on by poverty which is brought on by society's flaws. Great song for driving down a country road at night with the windows down. Joe really can sing. |

| Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Is This Love? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Besides, Talking Heads are great. And there is certainly nothing I've heard since the Heads that I've liked as much as Clap Your Hands =P | |
| David Byrne – The Great Intoxication Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
When I saw Byrne play this song, he explained beforehand: "This next song is about a letter written by a coworker of mine to someone he was in love with. The letter never got sent." What a weird guy. Great song. |
