| The Mountain Goats – Going to Georgia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Probably one of the greatest songs I've ever heard (along with "Oh Comely" by Neutral Milk Hotel and a few others). | |

I want to live every day feeling like this song. Every moment will be the reckoning, and god damnit, I want to feel so proud to be alive. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. "I waited so long, and now I taste jasmine on my tongue"? This image is unbeatable. John Darnielle blows my mind. |

| "From the boy in the bubble to a whore in the rubble..." This is one of my favorite MF songs. The video with the random shots of live footage of this song is pretty sweet, too - gotta love Andrea Vaughn on the melodica. | |

"I'm fraudulent, a thief at best, a coward who paints a bullshit canvas things that will never happen to me and at arm's length, it's Tim who said I'm good at it, I've mastered it avoiding, avoiding everything" I'm almost entirely sure this is a reference to Tim Kasher from Cursive/The Good Life, respectively. Tim often deals with avoidance, self-deprecation and the destruction of "good things" in his lyrics. I love the incestuous side of Saddle Creek, all the little references to others on the label [given Rilo Kiley isn't signed to SC anymore, right?]. Bright Eyes also referenced Tim in "Nothing Gets Crossed Out:" "Yeah, Tim, I heard your album and it's better than good." It's fun to kind of pick them out. |

One of the most obvious lyrical references is "It echoed through the park last night." Elliott lived in an apartment in the Echo Park area of LA for a while, and that's where his death occurred. This song chokes me up everytime I hear it. Everybody dies. |
