it seems like it's the progression of their relationship from the time he finds out she's pregnant, to his reactions to her abortion. In the first verse, he wants to stop fighting "let's put away the sticks and stones be human beings" for the sake of the baby. he wants to make the decisions together but she pushes him away and eventually has an abortion. although he still has feelings for her, he can't deal with the fact that she had an abortion. the last verse is filled with some of the most disdainful things i've ever read. "You perfume covered helpless louse, look on the bright side See, every time you laugh out loud I'm crying inside. I have the sense to be afraid, to be the fool Try commonsense. Make me believe believe in you" he's basically saying you pathetic useless thing, give me a reason not to completely hate you. |

i love this song and am so surprised there aren't any comments! i think this boils down to the fact that, although he is hurt by love (the girl leaves him for another), that ultimately, because of this pain, he will be able to understand love more fully and in turn be able to love more truly and more deeply. |
