I grew up listening to Van but its only recently that ive really seen the many religious references in his music. I am not a religious person, but i am drawn to his songs, he is such a great musician.I get chills when i hear this song, and i do get how people feel that this is about heaven. On a more personal level, after experiencing the loss of some-one i think this song gives me comfort in considering that there is a chance i may meet with them again, in another time and another place. The line 'and i will never grow so old again' is a bit of tear-jerker for me when thinking how old some will never grow as a result of dying so young. i can be a bit of a dreamer at times, but i appreciate this song and all music in general for being able to articulate thoughts and emotions that i would never be able to make so clear, even if i wrote thousands of words everyday for thousands of years. Four years hasnt made anything easier. But Like i said i find comfort in thinking this song helps us remember all the important people that have been lost along the way... |

i love this song. especially how dramatic it gets towards the end. And the line 'never telling how i felt is all i ever cared about'..to me its so powerful. anyway After reading the lyrics, i think the song has something to do a person who feels sick of their situation, maybe specifically a relationship, so they do something about it.. maybe cheat, or make some massive life change and then they try deny what they have done...until eventually their secret is found out, and they want to hide from everybody because they realise they have gone 'too far'. I get the relationship feeling from this song because Parts of this song just spell out 'communication break-down'. its a top song.. and now im interested in hearing the acoustic version |

| wow..i think it must just be me but i cant help but think this song is about death. i guess in a way it is a love song.. but to me about a dead person. its almost as if the persona, who had never previously belived in god, is asking him to look after that person who has passed, is pleading to leave that person exactly as they are, and is almost asking that in the chance that the loved one needs to be directed to another place, that it one day be back into the persona's arms. Its interesting that i feel that interpretation from that song, seeing as even though i believe in some kind of higher presence, i wouldnt consider myself religious. I dont know i guess if i died i would want my special someone to think of me in this way. | |

I think the self-harm/suicide is definatley apparent, but if you read between the lines, you could interpret this song on a much more metaphorical level. What is your razor? Is it a bad relationship, drugs/alcohol or a person in your life that treats you like shit. And yeah for some people it probably quite literally is a razor. Is he singing about two people or is he referring to himself, his body and his conscious, and what they both need to hide from? i.e. their 'razor' whatever that may be. I get lost in this song, both in the lyrics and the music, it is truly beautiful on so many levels. |

this is my first 'something with numbers' song, and not too bad either. To me this song is about people who have been in a relationship for a long time, and no matter how much they crave intimacy, things just dont feel the same... im feeling the chorus, especially enjoying turning that part up as loud as i can, and screaming at the top of my lungs. nice. post more comments! |

| i agree that this song could quite fittingly be dedicated to the fans, yet whenever i hear it i cant help but feel that dave is singing about music in general; what it has given him and the feeling he gets from it ... its like he is saying to show his appreciation (in your honour) he would do anything for 'the music' to feel what he is feeling.
