I used to really disike AFI. And this song got stuck in my head and now I'm in love with them. So I don't know too much about them or if they're religous or not but here's my take on it. I think he's being torn up over "miss murder" and he's wondering if he kills himself, will she regret not giving him a chance. I think the verses are him basically about God and how the singer feels like God isn't helping him fix the situation with miss murder, who ever she is. |

Ok well his girlfriend is from Miami and I know they vacationed there last year, so perhaps this is about an arguement they had about trust and commitment when they were they. Or he could be using the word Miami to represent her. I hate to bring this up but I think the " let's be honest so long as you don't torture me with my past" bit is refering to the hurricane of shit Adam got thrown at him over the whole him cheating on Michelle Nolan thing. At least my theory fits. |

I personallyy reckon it's break but hey... The "hollow out your hungry eyes" bit is a refernce to the song from the film dirty dancing ( no idea who sings it) but it's basically about being attracted to someone and he's saying he's been hurt by this girl and this has made him go off her .Make sense? |

I reckon Worrilow has a fair point and I can see where they're coming from but I still disagree. The hungry eyes is a reference to the song from dirty dancing-basically she makes him not want her anymore. Plus the VIOLENT red bit. As for the video the theme of that's turning something disasterous into something beautiful which I reckon goes with the song. Firstly I think there was a relationship and then the girl get's all confused (new head filled up with smoke). Because of this she hids in bars drinking trying to figure things out and he comes and finds her. Eventually They break up because of their differences (you are everything I want 'cause you are everything I'm not) but he still loves her. They argue (you are red, violent red) and this causes him to feel rejected so he goes off her ( you hollow out my hungry eyes) Then basically I think he does something terrible to her that'll make him stay in her memory (I just want to break you down so badly...you won't ever get too far from me ) This is his revenge on her for causing all the arguements and in his eyes turning the disaster into something he wants instead. I can't be bothered to explain anymore because I want to go to bed but you get the drift of it. There's still a possibility it's the whole sex thing but I reckon What it feels like to be a ghost is about a similar situation but it's not quite the same. Go look at my interpretation of that if you disagree or w/e. I just don't think every song on this album would be about fucking this one girl tbh 'cause most of tbs's lyrics are deeper than that. xx |

Ok well my take on this song is it's about A guy pressureing a girl to have sex with him.They've met at a gig or a club or something and she likes him but doesn't want to go too far too soon. Has anyone noticed not only the songs are writen simpler but they've decided to use lines from the songs as the title as well which isn't very tbs...odd. Maybe we'll even get the full lyrics written in the booklets this time? Anyway. Amazing song by and amazing band.These guys are collectively God to me. I think it's something along the lines of what people have already said but so far i don't think anything seems to fit 100% I think the " hollowed out my hungry eyes" is a reference to the song in dirty dancing though. The people who were talking about relationship stuff were the closest. Matt said "I wrote the song 4 years ago and it was about my girlfriend going away to university. We knew we were going to be apart for three years and it was horrible,we were both in tears." It's from an issue of kerrang from sometime before september last year I think? Can't remba. After I found out this song was based on invisible monsters I went and bought it. £7.50 but very well spent. It's the kind of book where you have to pay attention to. It isn't written in the order of events .A page can have 4 paragraphs explaining four toaly different events ,years apart.Chuck Palahnuik is God. Though the book kinda screwed up my perspectives on some stuff. It really makes you think. |

To me this song has the whole lack of identity theme but also about feeling victimised and mistreated by "friends". I can't be fucked to analyse the whole thing but heres the general message I get from the chorus. Old man lonliness is a son of a bitch-he feels excluded by everyone Both hands bound, can't scratch the itch-he can't escape or control it Cut off all loose ties, and bleed for days- He wants to cut himself off from everyone but he knows it'll just hurt him more Who can stand veins with friends like these?- Obvioulsy about self harm. He hates whats happening so he takes it out on himself. As for the rest of the song just relate it back to my theory nd it should make sense. This song is fucking awsome, I;ve had the album for ages but not listened to it much nd I put it on the other day and this song just stuck out to me. Go buy it! |
