| Elvis Costello – Radio Radio Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song was actually inspired by God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols, which the BBC refused to play believing that singing "God save the queen, the fascist regime, that made you a moron for potential H bomb..." was treasonous. The fact that playing this song itself became contentious, is a beautiful kind of irony. Now Radio Radio came out in 1979, before CNN and before MTV; when radio played a much larger role. But media censorship still exists from the overt of Red China banning any mention of the Tiananmen Square Massacre to the covert like immediately after 9/11 and the lead up the Iraq War where radio stations and MTV were told not to play anything critical of the US like Rage Against the Machine or blackflag, or Karl Rove meeting with Holywood to create more "patriotic films." |

I completely and utterly agree. But is it just me or does the beginning go: "Act may've killed you..." I bought the song off itunes so does anyone actually have liner notes and all? |

| Elliott Smith – New Monkey Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think the person he's talking to his own drug craving, I know not every song of his is about drugs but to me this one is. Though I am quite bias because that seems to be what I'm going through right now... The copy I have has his vocals wayyy too low compared to the instruments, anyone know a link to a better version? |

| Bright Eyes – The Biggest Lie (Elliott Smith cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| If the Motion Sickness album wasn't so good, Oberst butchering this cover would be unforgivable. It is hard to compare artists, but I feel that Elliott and Oberst are comparable. Both have have folk roots and dark lyrics with a sunny disposition. Bright Eyes puts up a good fight but Elliott is a god. | |
| Elliott Smith – Angel in the Snow Lyrics | 20 years ago |

To lost in twilight, yeah he mentions "division" quite a lot but "angel in the snow" is only from Clementines. I might be wrong. I think the two songs were written around in the same time too, since it's taken me several years to find the demo of Angel in the Snow instead of a really grainy old version. Anyways, most beautiful song he's ever written in my opinion. Touch in its poignancy yet so simple at the same fucking time. |

| Elliott Smith – New Disaster Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I can't believe no one has commented on this song yet. Though it is one of his more obscure ones and is pretty new to me, a true hidden gem. A definite song that should have been in From a Basement on the Hill. | |
