| Fightstar – Grand Unification, Pt. I Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I really do believe that this song is about Neon Genesis Evangelion. A lot of Fightstar's songs are influenced about it and the themes reappear in the lyrics. I suggest you watch this anime, even if you don't typically watch the stuff. It can be mind blowing. Alright, the first reason is the title "Grand Unification" can be synonymous with the Human Instrumentality Project, since in the eyes of all the characters the merging of the human consciousness is the final step in evolution. Melded together, they do make a grand unification of all minds. They are all the same once the AT fields (the field that keeps the soul sacred and untouchable in the show) are gone. Individuality is lost. This song shows everything setting off and after Shinji Ikari is saved from the first angel by Misato. "Covered and coarse I could wait my turn To pay them back" -Rei Ayanami Rei Ayanami, the only Eva pilot that we know of at this point is severly beaten by the first angel. So much so that she is wheeled out on a medical bed and she is bruised, cut, bleeding and covered in bandages. It wouldn't be best for her to fight at all, but she know that she must if called upon. So this line is her realization of her injuries and knowing that it would be best for her to stay put and have time to heal and recover. However, she also wants to stop the first Angel, or "pay them all back." "So Original, Lets take it all back You can hide but I wont" -Gendo Ikari Shinji, seeing that his father has only reappeared into his life simply because Gendo wants him to fight says that he won't do it. Rei Ayanami falls and Shinji catches her and sees her injuries and it quite horrified. Gendo says that he doesn't have time for this, that Shinji can go home, then tells Ayanami to get up and get into Eva Unit 01. In this case, "Original" would be Rei Ayanami since she is the First Child and the first Eva Pilot. "How do you know?" - Shinji Ikari Somehow, that strikes a chord with Shinji and he says that he'll pilot the Eva, saying that Gendo will have to acknowledge his existence one way or another and he'll prove he's not a coward. ~~~~~~~ "Blacked out and bleeding Take it away One look and you'll never believe, That this cant hold us down." During the fight with the First Angel, Shinji is completely unprepaired and is severely wounded by the creature (a shot through the eye of his Eva). Shinji is yet again horrified, thinking that it's impossible for him to beat the First Angel no matter what everyone else says might be possible. Pretty much, he's losing faith in himself. ~~~~~ "If I wake up On my own If something happens Please come home Wake me up before you go" Shinji wakes up in another "consciousness" per say. He says to himself that everyone will be better off without him, and that even though he was completely useless, he wishes that at least he won't be forgotten about. Conflicting thoughts, but that is the madness that is going through a boy's brain who believes that he is dead and has lived a life abandoned by his father and whose mother died. ~~~~~ "If you ever know That it can never hurt As much as this does Its so original Lets make this all work You could run but I wont, how do you know" The way the Eva system works is that there is a direct line between the nervous system of the pilot and the robot. So any damage done to the robot is directly felt to the person. However, it also allows for a greater range of movement. SO, in a way, this part is telling about the pain that Shinji is going through is real, but also it can also mean that the pain of being hurt in combat won't ever be as much as knowing that his father doesn't care about him at all as long as Gendo's plans are exacted. ~~~ You cant hold us down This wont hold us down You cant hold us down Shinji goes into berserk mode at this part and ultimately defeats the first Angel. He is revived by some other force (later known as the soul of his mother that was inside the Eva) and completely wreaks havoc upon the First Angel until it's defeated. At last, he has a glimmer of hope in the situation. |

| Disturbed – Indestructible Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"Indestructible" is "an anthem for soldiers", vocalist David Draiman comments.[1] "It's meant to be something that would make them feel invincible, take away their fear, make them strong."[1] According to Draiman, the song also signifies Disturbed's lingering presence and success in the music industry. Draiman comments that the song "kind of symbolizes the fact that we're still fucking here, that we haven't been destroyed, that we withstood the test of time."[2] Guitarist Dan Donegan furthers this point, stating "We feel that we've become indestructible to be able to survive this long in the business, and continuing a success with it."[2] Draiman concludes, "We have been through a lot. No matter what gets thrown at us, as a band, no matter what happens in the musical environment, we're still here, we're still viable, and still standing."[2] Thank you wikipedia. There's the meaning of the song. It's not meant to be a satire, it's for us troops. He was inspired by the fact that we listen to their songs before going on missions and such and made this song for us, pretty much. |

| Thrice – The Lion and the Wolf Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song makes me remember a part in the Ender Series by Orson Scott Card, (I believe it's Xenocide or Children of the Mind), where a character is told the story of a man and the wolf he kept as a dog. Apparently, the wife told her husband that the dog was not a dog, but a wild wolf no matter how tamed it may seem. The husband told the wife that the wolf was the most loyal pet he had ever seen and he let it do what all dogs do, including sleep in their bed. One day, the husband took the wolf for a private plane ride and the plane crashed. The husband was mortally wounded, his guts hanging out and the wolf started to eat his insides. The man was not angry, but happy saying these words as he looked into the wolf's eyes: "I am so very happy that at least one of us will survive instead of both of us dying. You are truly a worthy pet." That story, like I said, reminds me of this song. That the wolf is disguising as a dog and waiting for the time that he can take advantage of the person who thinks they own him. Since the wolf can't take out the person on his own for various reasons, he has to bide the lion to come and do the job for him. Aesop's tale comes into play because the lion gets first dibs in both the fable and the song, with the wolf only getting what's left over in the song. What is devoured can be anything really, but we must know something: The wolf betrayed someone's trust. I think that Dustin made the song ever expanding, so it could be about anything, but it teaches us a lesson: That we should beware of those enemies that play as friends more than those that are obviously enemies. |

I think that I'm going to go through every single song of this album. To me, Say Hello to Sunshine is one giant tribute to Edgar Allen Poe. This first song starts with the death of Virginia Poe and the subsequent madness of Edgar Allan Poe. The first two stanzas are his feelings after Virginia has died of tuberculosis. The line "Now go to sleep," could be both his final words to her before she passed away, as a method of his to ease the pain of her suffering, and in his madness, her words to him (whispered as a ghost). This can be seen in the lines "Call it a whisper/to protect all your children...". We all know that his stories can be dark and very disturbing, something that children should not read. So, if it is Virginia whispering to Poe after her death, she's trying to shift his writing style so he doesn't write so dark. The rest of the song sort of describes his symptoms of his sickness. It is thought that Edgar Allan Poe died of rabies. Looking on a bit of research (wikipedia), this is what I found the symptoms of rabies: slight or partial paralysis, cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, paranoia, hallucinations, progressing to delirium and flu-like symptoms. Almost all of these symptoms fit into what is described into this song. The bloody stomach could be a hallucination that he's having due to the pain he's in due to the flu like symptoms. That and Edgar Allan Poe is thought to have tried to commit suicide in 1848. |

| Slipknot – Opium of the People Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I forgot about the first two lines of the excerpt that I posted. The first line points to the Satanism, I think because it is a very experimental and then the second line is feeding on the line before it saying that he is not going to claim responsibility for whatever people are going to believe him, hence "accidental" | |

I think that this song is not only about the christian religion, but also the satanic ones. I'm atheist, so you might not listen to my words, but that is alright. I point this out, because it is a known stereotype that people who listen to metal music are supposed to be Satanist and the lead singer knows this and he realizes that there are people who turn to Satanism due to music like his. So not only is his saying that believing in Christianity tends to be hypocritical and useless, he is saying that taking the direct opposite side, Satanism is just as bad. The only proof that I may have are the lines: Deity experimental! Faith is accidental! I won't give another soul to you! I won't give another life to you! I won't give another thought to you! I won't give any more of my hope to you! So he is basically saying to both sides: I'M GOING TO DEFY YOU BOTH OUTRIGHT AND I'M NOT GOING TO LEAD PEOPLE TO EITHER OF YOU! |

| Trivium – A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The song is not about an abusive family, rather, it is about bands that feed and send out despair to their followers. "You starve your children on neglet Then feed their bellies with fear Concussion bat to the brain" This is referring to their music thus sending out fear and being the bat. Just look at the scars you make Your terror makes your kids break A broken home just as you were raised With fist raised up to your children Trivium, I think, is making a point with the first and second lines that these bands aren't caring what their effects of music are having against their listeners. the fist in the air isn't a fist to beat people with but rather the fist in the air during concerts when the most anger is let out. Then, with the broken home reference is the fact that some bands take their anger and frustration and send it to people who didn't grow up so distorted as they did, thus it would have a negative and unwanted effect. You've made beautiful Now hateful You wretched life wrecker This is referring to the fact that these unnamed bands take something beautiful (music) to make meaningless and overly angry strings of crap. The hey's are indeed a statement like olli stated. |
