It would appear I'm a bit late to the party, but I think SystemBranden is mostly right. However, his analysis misses one important point: the author seems to be discussing astral projection. Even with that knowledge, though, it's pretty darn cryptic; it's reminiscent of Bruce Dickinson in that regard. Interpreting the first verse with any accuracy is near-impossible, thanks to the pronoun usage and an inability to determine whether or not the perspective is changing. My take: the stars are speaking to him, saying that since he's grown, they'll be waiting (why?), and him responding to the stars (the 'childhood friend') that he's trying to find a way back ('learnt to leave my body'). As to 'thieves in the stars', your guess is as good as mine. The second verse is a bit clearer. 'Fingerprints astray', 'gathered source of waves' (the spirit) and 'mobility of 'think'' are referencing leaving the body, while 'where wide-eyed gods...' means leaving Earth. Once again, 'aesthetic proof beyond nimbus' is anybody's guess. The best I can interpret is finding proof of something more. Verse three seems to be focused on what's lacking in modern life and the Earth; 'soil and scab' being the latter and 'bored time' being the former. The 'Bruce Lee' reference is lost on me. 'Time stands still in children's hands' sounds like an obvious reference to lost childhood, which might mean this song could simply be the author's take on Peter Pan. The chorus is longing for security and meaning and reflecting on how far away it is. The second iteration elaborates on that with the addition of 'something's wrong'. 'It all becomes unharmed' could use some context, but it might mean that if the security is ever attained what's wrong will disappear. In the final version, 'world way out there' and 'fruit for the brain' would seem to imply that the journey (adulthood, perhaps) might actually be interesting. Who knows? Sometimes I wish artists would include a little background. |
