this song really paints a picture in my head. --it's nighttime, and the boy and the girl are on a sidewalk in a neighborhood. it's quiet. streetlights are out. the girl has her suitcase, and she's leaving. "your kisses and goodbyes are leaving my lips numb." they are saying their last goodbyes, and of course, the boy doesn't want her to leave. "i pray that our shoes melt in the pavement." |

This girl in my English class used to this song in a presentation we had to do. I hadn't heard the song before, but her interpretation of the song seemed interesting, so I went home and downloaded it, and I absolutely loved it. The girl's interpretation was a comparing how people of a higher social status, have the looks, but tend to have not-so-good personalities, and the people who are not necessarily beautiful on the outside, the people who do not stand out as much, but are equally as good because they have the better personalities. The "beautiful" people do not realize the people who are not like them, and the song is saying, why couldn't we take the soul of a person in society, and the looks of someone else in society, put them together, and see what happens... "When we turn the dirt With our palms cupped like shovels, But I know our filthy hands Can wash one another's And not one speck will remain" If you think of the song in that perspective, the rest of it is pretty much self-explanatory. Great song. |

Okay. Seriously. Who doesn't love this song? Yeah. That's what I thought. This song is amazing--even if you don't like Dashboard, or this is your first time listening to them, or you don't like this genre of music, orrr you're a tough gangster who lives in "da hood," with the hookers and the ho's, bustin' niggas caps, you'll still love this song. What makes this song is wonderful, I think, is that it taps into everyone's mind; it's just that good. Everyone can relate to the song so well, or even if they can't, the amazing lyrics paint such a vivid picture in your mind. Being with the one you love...walking after it's rained...kissing on the doorstep...isn't it beautiful? |
