A word on the line "she's singing ye lah my boyfriend's back" - As everyone knows Romeo is singing a serenade for Juliet who has left him (after using him?) while Romeo is still love with her. Supporting the story adding more character to Juliet - she is singing the "song" titled "My boyfriend's back". From Wikipedia: The song ["My Boyfriend's Back"] is a word of warning to a would-be suitor who, after the narrator of the song rebuffed his advances, went on to spread nasty rumours about the narrator's romantic indiscretions. Now, the narrator declares, her boyfriend is back and ready to settle the score, and she tells the ex-suitor to watch his back. One of the perfect songs - uses a lot of references to other songs/plays/stories/movies to tell a new story with a modern tragedy. |

This song is a "not unhappy sad song". That's a rare variety. It is about someone whose love story didn't happen and he was sad earlier, but he has learned to walk on, let it go and go ahead with his life. In this song, he remembers his love. And he is not sad while remembering, just fond and a little wishful. He is not letting the impossibility of the wish interfere in his wish, but the sadness does creep up in the one line " .. and I'd trade it all.." This song is one of my favorits, and no less for its beautiful lyrics than for the mesmerizing flute in the interlude. |

To me, it's about doing the right thing. When i left my job cuz they were doing some things I found disgusting and downright immoral, when everyone around shrugged and said "this is the way industry works" and my friends insisted "wherever u go u will find similar practices" and i was being mocked by my bosses as being a phoney hypocrite - the job was pretty good and even my parents felt the reason for my leaving was not reason-enuf, well this song really gave courage. dont care what people say just follow ur own way I've learnt one thing - Follow your Heart. (You might or might not be successful, but u sure will be happy.) dont care what people say just follow ur own way :) |
