omg i just figured this song out after like a year...i'm fast hey? the title 'anthem of our dying day' is the day of his and his gf's relationship. "The stars will cry the blackest tears tonight," -whenever i'm heartbroken i end up looking at the stars and thinking that they should be falling like the end of the world coz 'surely the rest of the world must feel my pain' and the guy in the song is saying that surely the stars know what is happening and let the world end. "and this is the moment that i live for," -sarcasm to the extreme. he's saying that he was waiting for the end of the relationship just like every other relationship he's ever had. "i can smell the ocean air." - i imagine himbeing up on a cliff or hill overlooking the ocean and the rest of the city. "Here i am pouring my heart on to these roof tops," -he's screaming this song from the hill or cliff at the city and saying exactly how he's feeling. "just a ghost, to the world." -he's saying that he feels dead because the girl has taken everything he is away from him "That's exactly, exactly what i need." - he feels as though dying is the only way for him to be now that he's lost the girl which was the only thing that mattered to him in his life. (Chorus) "From up here the city lights burn, like 1000 miles of fire," - such raw, heart-renching emotion here. he's looking at the city and watching the lights and how alive the whole city feels when he's heart broken and dead and he's watching on in amazement that the rest of the world doesnt feel devastated "and i'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day." -it's the dying day of his and his gf's relationship "For a second i wish the tide, would swallow every inch of this city, " -he's saying that he wishes that the city could get wiped out so everyone felt dead, just like him, just for a moment so they would know just how he feels. "as you gasp for air tonight." -i think that maybe she cheated on him and she begged his forgiveness and she's upset too and she's crying and he knows she's devastated too but he hates her coz of how much she's hurt him and he can't forgive her even though he loves her with everything he has and everything he was before they broke up "i'll scream this song right in your face, if you were here. " - he wants to scream at her and tell her how much she hurt him but she's nowhere near and he's too devastated to call her and say it to her "I swear i won't miss a beat, cause i never, never have before. to me this song is about me and my ex...we were going out n broke up coz i wasnt ready for a serious relationship and then like a week before i moved to another state me and him got back together even though he already had a girlfriend but it felt so right because we were so in love and for some reason it didnt feel like cheating... i used to think this was about a guy stealing a car after his girlfriend died just to get away but the lyrics seem to suggest that they broke up and her new boyfriend got her into stealing stuff and now she's in jail "bleeding on the inside, for me to call again" she's in jail and coz u cant call people when you're in jail she's dying for him to call her coz she realises just how bad her new boyfriend is and how much she wants him back or maybe her and her new boyfriend steal a car and he crashed it and now the old boyfriend (who's singing the song) is saying like 'i want u back, y did u have to do that? you'd still be alive if you'd stayed with me' etc just my thoughts but the lyrics reali suggest that either she's dead or she's dying emotionally without him and going through depression maybe? |
