I took this in a slightly different way; You know how indigenous people on remote islands were just chillin' before all sorts of different colonizers came with big ideas about "civilization"? Well this song seems to tell the story about what their attitude should have been. Three kings--specifically refers to Christianity http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_Magi |

| Eels – Mr. E's Beautiful Blues Lyrics | 15 years ago |

While I agree that the song might be taken to be extremely sarcastic, given the juxtaposition of the negative things with the chorus of positive affirmation, however I think that just because it is sarcastic, it isn't exactly that. I think it is a case where the positive affirmation, the sarcasm as it were, is supposed to be emphatic. That is to say, yes, it is a pretty crappy day, but its still a beautiful day. You're alive aren't you? Yes the day is shitty, but god damned right its a beautiful day. Nothing will change that all of this is terrible, but I refuse to be bowed by it. I feel like that this song is about how yes, realization that the world is shitty and rapidly going to the fukin' dogs, stress, distress, all of it, just piling up, but god damned right its a beautiful day. This will not beat me, this will not break me, and what does not kill me, makes me stronger. |

| Frightened Rabbit – Keep Yourself Warm Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think this song is as much about himself (yourself) as the other person. Its weird to say this, but I got the impression that its him talking to himself, chiding himself for his ways. | |

| The Cure – How Beautiful You Are... Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Disillusionment leads to feeling stupid for being stupid and that leads bitterness and that leads to gentle hatred of the object of disillusionment. Don’t mind me, I’mm just a wee bit bitter. | |

Writing as therapy...the world is strange and scary, and the steel eyes and the tight jaw is the tension that you are constantly in when dealing with the world. thumbing the blade? a suicide reference if I ever heard one. but he doesn't does it? plastic saints? perhaps refers to fact that even the best things can become fake in this world, white paint? perhaps how the truth is whitewashed and sugar coated, everything paper mache and fake. The man on the street might as well be .... outside this world for all that he knows... but somebody got to say it all...the truth needs to be told and whatnot |

"Gravy train" is an idiomatic expression which is used to refer to any endeavor that can be completed without much work input. It derives from the idea that gravy is a rich and luxurious food, high in nutritional value, and adds the idea of a train, which can take you somewhere without you having to do anything other than to buy a ticket (or stowaway). The basic idea is that if you are on a train where much gravy is served, not only are you headed somewhere, but the way to get there is easy and full of comfort. but its more negative than good anyway.... love this song love the album |

| Pixies – Dig For Fire Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
No idea what it means. But I like to think that it means to stop worrying and when you’re broken, cold and alone on the freezing floor, you remember your worth, and start digging for fire. I persist in this existence because I choose to. I choose to keep digging for fire. I’ll keep digging for fire |

I think this song switches from the daughter talking to the father, to the father talking to the daughter, to the father thinking to himself, to the father explaining to the daughter, and in the end the daughter consoles the father.... I kinda understand |

| Alanis Morissette – I Was Hoping Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this song....it seems like the conversation between two people who care about each other....but now they meet and she's stronger....like all the little things that she thought before...now she's far more mature and calm and at peace with the world...but perhaps she had hoped for something wonderful... this song gets me all thoughtful |

It makes sense that this is about the media; viz. bugs is so about the media. Perhaps its about how the more famous you get the more scandels and other shit gets smeared on you....and Eddy boy is just TIRED of all that, thus the anger.... but its such an angry song, I love it, it just makes me want to jump around and yell loudly and throw things |
