This song, as most everyone else has said, is about forgiveness and about farewell. A man has ruined his life (not necesarily through drugs, some people can see a relation to drugs in a dyeper advert) and almost ruined the life of someone very close to him (his wife, I like to think). He is living on the streets as a beggar, and wishes forgiveness from this person before he says farewell to life. I think he actually does find forgiveness and not only that, but also desire on the other part to make a new start (so you bring this poor dog in from the rain). He, however, feels it's to late for him and he "just wants right back out again". It's one of my favourite metallica songs. |
