amy came up with this song when she was feeling homesick in lisbon. " couple of years ago, I felt so alone that I was dreading going on tour. We had just arrived in Lisbon and I was in my room feeling jet-lagged, weird and tired. I had just been home where I could see the stars at night. But when I looked out the hotel window in Lisbon, I couldn't see anything because we were in this big city. That was the last straw. I felt so depressed, I just started singing this song." I really like the new album. You can't judge it by the first single. The whole album's very different from it. |

| Evanescence – Field Of Innocence Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is an ode to childhood. The time in your life where you're young and aloud to be blissfully ignorant. But as you become an adult and start to learn about how cruel and cold the world is, you lose that innocence. | |

| i heard that gerard wrote this song about himself. he said he had a lot of self-hate and this was just a self-hate song. i mean if you recall, he had a lot of issues with suicide and other things like that. the title was dedicated to his grandmother, elena. they called it helena however cause that's what they always called her. | |

| okay, i just feel so anoyed right now. in an interview amy lee said this song was about the relationship she had in the past in which she was physically abused, emotionally abused, verbally abused, and RAPED. no one mentions that part. the part about ben writing a story about a little girl is also included in this song. she took different elements and combined them for the fallen version. i can't belive no one pointed out before that parts of the song are about rape. it clearly says 'saving me, raping me'. how blind and deaf are you?? | |

okay, my interpretation is probably going to be completely different, and i'm very surprised no ones thought of this possibility yet: the first &second lines of the first verse catch me as i fall say you're here and it's all over now seem to be something she's actually saying to herself, as if she's pleading for someone to help and comfort her. the third and forth speaking to the atmosphere no one's here and i fall into myself she saying what she has said is heard by no one and no one is going to help her. that's when i begin to think this song is about rape. as you know, her song haunted mentions the relationship she had and what the guy she was dating did to her so i think parts of this song reflect what happend. the third line this truth drives me into madness is saying how she going mad realizing all this is happening. the next verse first and second line i'm frightened by what i see but somehow i know that there's much more to come seem to be about how she scared about what's going on but can sense that what's happening is going to get worse. the next two lines immobilized by my fear and soon to be blinded by tears is basically that she is so scared she can't move and she's crying so much that she can't see through her tears. although the thrid verse seems to be about something completely different. fallen angels at my feet whispered voices at my ear death before my eyes lying next to me, i fear she beckons me , shall i give in upon my end, shall i begin forsaking all i've fallen for i rise to meet the end she sees that there is death all around and "fallen angels" or people who were once pure who became evil and that death seems to be near. someone seems to be calling her away from all this and to be good and she's debating whether she should go or not. in the end she forsakes all she has "fallen" for to face the end or her doom. the chorus's first line don't turn away (don't give in to the pain) is saying don't turn away from good and give in to whatever is evil that tempts you. the second don't try to hide (though they're screaming your name) means don't hide from the authority when you know you've done something wrong. admit to your mistakes. the third is pretty literal don't close your eyes (god knows what lies behind them) don't pretend and lie because God will always know the truth even when no one else can tell you're lying. the last line don't turn out the light (never sleep, never die) may be saying don't turn off your source of salvation or safety. and as a metaphor if you "never sleep," you "never die" if you never turn out that 'light' you'll be just fine. |
