Thursday – The Other Side of the Crash/Over and Out (Of Control) Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is coming from the perspective of the person who was killed in the car accident, sitting in the hospital barely hanging on, who will eventually die. Seems kind of like a dream too.

"We fight currents in the water when we can't let go of the shore"

I love this line and if you have ever not let go of something, you'll clearly understand this....You go through so many more obstacles when you don't let go, but for some people you'll truely never be the same again, therefore you "went along with it [the crash]"

"keep crashing this car, over and over" is like re-living it.

And

"Don't look away!
I need to know if this is real."

Is like needing to have proof, not being able to comprehend what happened....Ralph Waldo Emerson lost the love of his life early in their relationship and for months he had to continuely go look at her body. I don't think he ever got over it.

The whole "out of control" part to me is coming from a person that always is usually in control...and when they aren't it's a hard to fathom.

Thursday – The Lovesong Writer Lyrics 19 years ago
This song to me symbolizes what Geoff feels about his writing.
He writes really personally material for people in particular and he feels awkward playing it in front of so many people, because it's flooded with emotion.
I also think it's talking about his job, what he's paid for and how he uncovers both extremes from it.
I like how he shows that something can be described as horrible and great at the same time.

Thursday – Autumn Leaves Revisited (Demo) Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is amazing.

Eventhough I think instead of "They shipped him over. Now he studders on the fine lines." it's "They shipped him over. Now he studies on the front lines."

This song amazingly expresses how the war affects so many more people than just the soldier...it also comes across like Geoff is against War, just by the fact he inserts moral strife.
The guy closes his eyes like it's nothing at all...because it is something...people shouldn't be killing people.

I love this song.

wow.
I need to get out of my town.
This song has given me such motivation to do something and stop digging my own grave in a worthless town.

The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics 20 years ago
I have to different versions to this song is regarding a man who let alcohol ruin a relationship. Obviously he didn't see he had a problem until he got help, then he realized why he was worth leaving.

"Smeared black ink
Your palms are sweaty
And I'm barely listening
To last demands"---I take this part as the part where the girl is telling him that he has a problem, maybe the smeared black ink is her crying on a note she wrote him. And by him barely listening to last demands is him denying his problems and her telling him to get help.

"I'll wear my badge
A vinyl sticker with big block letters
Adherent to my chest
That tells your new friends
I am a visitor here: I am not permanent
And the only thing keeping me dry is where I am"----This part I see it saying that he is in rehab and that it shows he is only a visitor, because he has to go back to the rehab clinic, and the only thing keeping him dry is being there.

I think by the end of the song it shows he really hasn't gotten help and still drinks, but he understands why she is gone. He has grown apart from her and is now a stranger and by him saying "A stranger with your door key
Explaining that I am just visiting" stresses to me that she doesn't want him there.
I also think the "out of context" part is stressing how much she has changed in his eyes. Obviously he didn't notice that side of her because he was an alcoholic.

The other version is that he has died from some way and left his gf behind and all she has become is a partyier. I get this image from the "I'm staring at the asphalt wondering
What's buried underneath where I am" part and I think he could have been having an out of body experience listening to her talk to him.
Then by him say that "he was the one worth leaving" maybe he was pissed off that he was the one that died, and now is happy that she is alive.

I dunno, overall it's undeniably an amazing song that you can interpret however you like.
