please people dont be hating! :P i think its just one of those songs ur not meant to understand so ppl stop tyring to figure it out! i can understand that people think its over rated but thats only coz it became so famous that every1 in the entire world can play the opening riff :P its nice to sing this and have no fuking clue what ur even singing, just walking around listening to it it doesnt get boring coz it has no 'story line'. peace out people |

this is an awesome song, and im probably not the only one who thinks this about the song but here goes: it starts off talking to the public: "So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?" and then he goes on to talk to syd: "And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cold breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?" hes asking him if this is what it was like for him - did the record companies, fans - the world- make him feel this way, turning himself into heavy drug use, eventually driving him to insanity. hes sort of relating to syd and understanding how he must have felt. he continues this with: "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears, wish you were here." hes saying wer just 2 ppl stuck in the same world of drugs and fame doing all we do for somebody else i wish u were still here. and yer thats about it!! i dont think its about the war tho, ppl think it is just becoz of the referance to the war, but it think this line is the referring not to a literal "war" but a battle of some sort..maybe life? neways im done now! :D |
