donutbandit and writer 17 I feel you are properly perspicacious! I always saw it as him talking about his girlfriend who may have been a philistine that was always out to impress him but shallow, perhaps similar to the protaganist's complaint in HEy 19, a younger, less wordly person to be involved with. The diamond in your hand I thought was a reference to her being a plebian in the end who put on a veneer for the world , that he could see through! Im obsessed with the Dan as is my boyfriend, I shouldve known better!!

I was actually teaching myself this song through a tab site, I don't know why I waited so long, I have been playing 28 years already! I found some riveting ripostes here and I read something earlier about Plant being influenced by this Lewis SPence Book THE MAGIC ARTS IN CELTIC BRITAIN..lo and behold this is in my collection, serendipity indeed. Just wondering if this is a confirmed influence for STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN. I will peruse the text and see. This song is a visceral experience. I came into Zeppelin a bit late I was always into the glam or punk thing growing up in Manchester. They are a force of nature. Curious, what year did Page purchase Crowley's mansion??? Anyone?
