Saves the Day – Monkey Lyrics 19 years ago
I've always thought this song seemed, if not exactly political, a commentary on the American way of life.

In case anybody's still interested, the name "Sefler" came from a typo in an email.

Elliott Smith – Pretty Mary K (The Infirmary) (Figure 8 version) Lyrics 19 years ago
I like how pretty much none of the comments on this song are ABOUT this song. Thanks.

So what do you all make of the line: "rode into the sun"? In Color Bars just two songs earlier on Figure 8, he says "everyone wants me to ride into the sun, but I ain't gonna go."

Limbeck – Brand New Orange Lyrics 20 years ago
haha yeah, the first time i heard this song i thought he was saying "a brand new orange juice stand," and my friend thought he said "a brand new orange is dead." now that I see the lyrics though, i get the whole orange county bit.

Panic! at the Disco – There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet Lyrics 20 years ago
"I bet to them, your name is "Cheap", I bet to them you look like sh--"

he doesn't actually SAY shit there in the song. does anybody else feel the urge to say "sheep" because it rhymes with cheap? Sheep would actually make sense as well; people who go with the flow, follow the trends, do what everyone else does can be called "sheep." I'm wondering if maybe he just said "sh--" so it could go either way.

If so.... p!atd is too freaking clever for its own good.

Panic! at the Disco – London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines Lyrics 20 years ago
All the crazy allusions they make A. blow my mind and B. are one of my favorite things about their music. I agree with almost everything that's been said (not so sure about the Pink Floyd reference but hey it's possible. I can't disprove it).

Panic! at the Disco – I Constantly Thank God For Esteban Lyrics 20 years ago
I would agree with the previous comment and add that they're also to some extent calling the musicians themselves on cultivating those attitudes. Most of the first verse ("selling faux sermons" "if you're going to preach then for god sakes preach with conviction") seems more directed at the performer than the audience. When he says "we are graced by two displays of character" he's differentiating between two groups: bands and audiences. The bands are singing about their bleeding hearts and their fans are going home and complaining in their blogs about how they slit their wrists at night, and Ryan sees that they're all bullshit. Fantastic song.
