just wanted to say, FUCK OATH THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME. brand new is the shit! they just keep getting better and better and jesse lacey is a gun. but yeah.. it's a shame most of the demo's didn't make it on the album.. but having said that.. i agree with someone who said there is a connection between this song and their untitled 01 demo, 'when we were kids, you were the sun to which my eyes would not adjust' |

i haven't read all the posts for this song, so i hope i'm not regurgitating what someone else's meaning of the song is. but my friend bought me this album for my birthday last year. and to be honest, i initially liked work, polaris and kill much more than 23. i didn't like the intro because it was too long. but it's been on repeat for the past couple of days. and i believe i was wrong because 23 is such an awesome song, lyrically outstanding. so outstanding that i felt the need to post a comment on what i stumbled across. i could be wrong, but i just feel like as if 23 is a follow up of for me this is heaven. "And this is what she said gets her through it If I don't let myself be happy now then when? If not now when?", and then in 23 he says, "It was my time to decide, I knew this was our time, No one else will have me like you do, No one else will have me only you. It’s like in for me this is heaven, its about him finding the right girl for him, but she makes him wait or she rejects him because the timing isn’t right. And that makes me think that perhaps the part in the beginning where he sings ‘the first star I see, may not be a star, we can’t do a thing but wait, so let’s wait’ is directed at that. It’s like through out the song he’s still contemplating. He says that he won’t always love what he could never have, yet the song ends with him telling her he’s here, he’s ready and he’s still holding on. Lol.. the way I interpreted this song was so much better in my head, I just can’t get the words out right. Hopefully someone will get my drift. But anways, this is an awesome song. I love the lines: ‘Youll sit alone forever If you wait for the right time What are you hoping for? Im here and now Im ready Holding on tight Dont give away the end The one thing that stays mine’ |

the original is by heatmiser - not half right. on their album futures, JEW made a reference to a heatmiser song with KILL 'like your favourite heatmiser song goes, it's just like being alone'. and what do you know, on their latest EP they did a cover of the heatmiser song they were referring to. I wouldn't say this is an awful heatmiser cover, coz if you listen to both songs carefully, they're pretty much the same, the only subtle difference is the vocals. But hey if you don't like JEW then fair enough, but i think they did a pretty good cover of that song. |
