for GrungyBeatle the scarlet starlet line is bout his girlfriend (jaime i think) who relapsed into drug addiction with him, and how she got really bad. ie. nearly killin herself with the drugs she was puttin into herself. they used to inject drugs into their arms whilst in ant's bed and she use to bleed like mad afterwards from the holes where she injected herself. "push the trigger" is injectin the drugs into the body "pull the thread" is the drugs enterin the body. "take it on the otherside" is like wot tropicalpeng sed, ant turns into a darker form of himself wen he is stoned. |

everybody shud go and read anthony kiedis's autobigraphy cos he explains wot this song is about. stlrsfan and nefaria are pretty spot on. he says its about him relapsing in and out of his drug addiction. The chorus is all about him sayin he knows he's doin bad things to himself but he just cant stop it cos the adiction controls him, he doesnt control himself! "splittin his side" is about him makin a mess out of his arms with all the injecting! the "scarlet starlet" and "she wants to know am i still a slut" is about his ex girlfriend jaime (i think thats the rite one) who relapsed into drug addiction with him and she suffered tremendously, and she was always insecure about him meetin all these girls who wanted to fuck him, so she thought he was unfaithful wen he wasnt!! |

ive been stuck on the meanin of this song for ages, then after lookin at the posts and reading the lyrics from the last verse backwards to the first verse i kinda get the feelin that the terminal illness is a good explanation of the meaning. "all wired up in a dawnin ray" i think is a metaphor for bein wired up at a hospital. i think the 3rd verse hints the twilight of someones life, ie. a person is dying. 2nd verse- the ride to the hospital in the ambulance with the movin beneath the trees and reflection in the water lines. 1st verse- a person findin another person dying and panickin, "rain like silver in my ears" i think shows panic metaphorically ringin in ur ears. oh well, i cud be way off!! |

i think feelgoodtime05 was in my head when he sed that, exactly what i was gonna say! Even tho its early in the year this is gonna be my fave song for the year! i don't think she lost her old ways, she sed herself that people might think she had lost her hippy side but she wanted to try sumthin new like all her friends did! As for the meaning.... no-one has mentioned timbaland in this, he's played an important role in all her other songs and i think the importance of him in this song is to make it more dramatic but he also helps the theory that there is two friends who've got feelings for each other but can't admit it, "you dont mean nothing at all to me" plus his interaction in the video. But like someone said earlier she doesnt even kno what she means by this, it was just a feeling! and im guessing that feelin was confusion!! love is never simple is my answer for the meaning (eventually!) |

i think this is the best song off the new album, immediately i got the impression that it was about the band saying they help make their fans feel better, but the lyrics do match the NA meeting scenario. anyhoo i just love the upbeat sound of the song and the energy all the band put into it, brilliant riffs from john, hammering of drums by chad, kick ass bass by flea and so much verve in ant's words. |

I've just read the 1st page of comments and i want to know why can't people understand that it is "loaded god complex" and it does make sense in the context of the "cocking and pulling". "loaded god complex" is a metaphor for being extremely vain and thinking you're god, and "cocking and pulling" it means he is letting it out by sabotaging his ex's (or girl he likes) relationship, because he is extremely jealous of it and wants to be with her himself. FULLDEVILSOCCER- now i've got you're attention "drop a heart and break a name" fits in with the sabotaging he is going to do, basically breaking up their relationship and her spirits by doing this. And for feck's sake ZEPPELINROCKS14 if you want to let out your frustration please do it with you're nocturnal friends or on a Led Zeppelin page, because if you wanted to let out you feelings you wouldn't do it here unless you had the intention of pissing someone off, ie. me. Fair enough FOB songs are hard to understand, but i prefer them that way because it shows the band has intelligence. Oh and by the way classic bands do rock just give the new one's a chance. |

Okay so this song is probably about telling over-EMO bands to get a life and stop obsessing over heartache along with their followers. This would then "save the scene". FOB is so much more than an EMO band, take a look at the lyrics and song titles and you will see they are probably the cleverest band out at the moment along with RHCP and P!ATD. Im so sick of the 'gangsters from the hood' who think they should be honoured because they endured a 'hard time' in the 'ghetto', the girl bands who think that they should sell records because of their 'looks' and 'synthesized voices', and don't forget about the boy pop bands who only sell because of their 'looks' and of the 'use' of previous songs. FOB should have released the song "we don't take hits, we write them" to piss take the pop bands. |

i relate this song to my summer romance and imagine singing this song to her. i think this song is about pete or a character he's imagining, and how his life is with a girlfriend he's known for a while. like how they dated at the start "spitting off bridge(s)" and drinkin cheap booze. but now they've gone on he thinks he is weighing her down hence the "locket", he is "jealous" of her now that she is successful maybe? and now he realises he is not good enough for her, "i'll be your best kept secret and your biggest mistake". the fast beat to the song stood this song out at the start of the album for me but it is now just behind "dark alley". i also think the acoustic version is better, a lot more soul into it. i haven't read the other posts on this so my meaning could be way off the original intention but hell it might be close. absolutely love this song. i sang to it all summer in the car with the bass cranked up. its so different to the other songs they do cos of the deep voice at the start, and thats what makes it special for me plus the line "please put the doctor on the phone cos im not making any sense". it just flows all the way through the song, f****** amazin how its constructed. i agree with Thru7being7Cool. i had a fight with somebody on here about interpretations and how people can have different idea's from the original intention. like to clarify on the 'joke me something awful like kisses on the necks of "best friends"(or "just friends" on how you here it) line. pay attention to the speech marks and the sentence makes complete sense. somebody says to pete that they're "just friends" (probably a girl) although they are kissing each other. So they are basically pretending he's a fool or taking the piss out of him hence "joke me something awful". he is a part of a bad joke. FOB rule summer '06! |

accidentally came across natasha when my sister left her cd in my player, but i think she's a good singer even though i don't like pop. toolostinyou when i read your comments i didn't really think about the song that way but you may be right. however i thought she was singing about her father who left her when she was young, "took light out of my life when you gave in", but she wants to get to know him better now that they have met up again, "break into my story" and "you can be my leading man". i don't know if this could be it. does anybody know if her dad left her when she was young?? |

can't believe more haven't posted on this song. when i first heard the song i thought "if we feel the silence" line was something to do with an ending of a relationship, because you feel something is wrong and you don't talk when you are about to break up with somebody. However after reading the lyrics i agree with music psycho and gonletitslide. It's about helping a friend open up to the world and be themselves when they are going through a tough time. Well done Damita, i think what you've said explains how i feel about this 'concept' album, of female deception. on time to dance however i think she is not committing suicide but feigning it, "she didnt choose this role but she'll play it and make it sincere"- being a convincing actress. This adds to the theory that female's fake things. Fly me high i hope this helps, i picture the song at a wedding reception, elaborate clothing (adding to the fakeness of emotions), the man (who the lead singer is playing) in his mind is trying to take his vengeance (in unpleasant ways) out on the woman but can't because he doesn't have the qualities required, such as envy and malice, to inflict upon her. Hatred is a strong emotion felt by the man. The female is pretending to cry and make him feel guilty. It seems that me being p***** off with girls at the moment at the moment, so sorry about the rant! |

i like to say to ambiendreams and flashbang u can have ur own interpretation of the song but i think that johnny is trying to say something different in that line. "When everything feels like the movies you bleed just to know that you're alive" is highlighting the fact that in the movies the actors/actresses don't bleed real blood ie. fake blood, which is ironic as they want to know if they are alive. this adds into the other ironic lines in this verse of telling lies unconvincingly or fighting back tears that isn't coming. This also links into being an actor/actress as you have to fake things in front of the camera, fake tears etc. anyway everybody is entitled to think differently on what this song means to them. This girl which i like, even tho she likes another guy, introduced me to this song and i thank her for it everyday as it kinds of explains my situation. got to watch city of angels by the sound of it. c u l8r |

i like 2 point out it's "would you come my way?". i agree totally with liahna. especially in the situation i'm in now, this song means a lot. This girl wants to cause havoc, "shake this scene" and "tear you down" ie. basically mess around with your feelings, yet she always makes a wrong decision, can't see the "holes in all the lies" ie. in my case choose the wrong guy. just love the heavy guitar especially at the start. dolls rock! |

i agree with sean m. it's a simple song about a girl called "jayne" who "got lost" or got killed after just breaking up from her boyfriend (the character Kelly plays). Kick ass song and nice 2 see phonics using more vocals than guitar. i just love that 'gravel' voice. it's so unique, it sets them apart from the good bands to an excellent band. |

This is one of my fave songs because it tells a beautiful story of being rejected by the world, yet hoping somebody like her will find and love her. A feeling which all of us feel at a point in our lives, which makes this such a universal song. Arctic_angel i disagree with what you say. She wants to fly "to the moon and back" because she'll do anything for somebody to love her. She also wants to leave her own world and start a new one with somebody who loves her, "got a ticket for a world where we belong". I think the "pilot" is a certain person who will love her for who she is, not somebody she just picked up from the streets. |
