Against Me! – White People for Peace Lyrics 18 years ago
well, texas tank, as a member of the USN i honestly know where you are coming from in a way. i hate how everybody over here says it's wrong to be over there when our friends and brothers are dying. my homeboy got hit with a mortar last week. but in reality, nobody knows why we went over there, even more so we don't know when we'll be leaving. this song is merely a statement on the current reality we live in, and a way of saying to the sleeping masses "get up and do something" or just keep sitting there, and listen to your "protest songs" since nobody seems to genuinely care about the troops except for their families, many people are content to merely do the latter.

Shadows Fall – Another Hero Lost Lyrics 18 years ago
it's good to see a song about the war that mostly avoids the politics of the situation, and instead focuses on the struggles of the families involved. amazing, i love this song.

Against Me! – White People for Peace Lyrics 18 years ago
i agree mostly with inferno. i see this song, in it's incredibly straight forward delivery, and humorous title, is satire of the current population, everybody says they want the war to be over, when all they do is listen to anti war songs. if you really wanted it to end that badly, you'd go out and do something, anything. The song also touches on the various motivations behind the sides fighting, and how those in power while publicly fighting over on how to bring peace, are in reality stalling so as to make their fortune off of this conflict.
bottom line, this song is at once subtle satire, and blunt leftism. lol white people for peace...

Arch Enemy – We Will Rise Lyrics 18 years ago
i like to think this song is not just about people not fitting in, and then overcoming it, but about something far greater. the first verse is especially appealing.

Tear Down The Walls
Wake Up The World
Ignorance is NOT Bliss
Our Time Is Here And Now

These lines speak to me of a person realizing that those around them simply do not know the truth. this song is about defeating ignorance, bringing light to people's intellectual darkness. Amazing song. period.

System of a Down – Hypnotize Lyrics 19 years ago
i personally think that the fashion part is a critique of modern youth. most of whom merely protest merely because it's the thing to do. society deems it as correct. whereas the kids at tieneman square genuinely believed in what they were protesting, SOAD is asking, "why are you protesting?" do you believe it? or are you just goin along?do you really have feelings in the matter? or are you living vicariously? the rest is pretty self explanatory, a quick hit on the media, how they try to form our opinions, and the story of someone trying to protest but somebody living in fear seeks to take them away.

My Chemical Romance – Famous Last Words Lyrics 19 years ago
yuck. welcome was such a huge growth for them musically. and while this song follows the same pattern of straightforward rock (not emo) the lyrics have regressed and leave waaaayyyy too much to be desired. it's like a 16 year old having his g/f leave him again. yeah, i know that's not what the song's about. nevertheless, that's how distictly uninspired the writing on this song is. yep, now i remember why i hate emo. haha i win.

My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics 19 years ago
oops, time for a double post, as far as meaning goes, this song is simply about overcoming personal demons and not giving up. which is something, i think everybody needs to hear, nevertheless, i can't get over how pussified most of their fans are hahaha.

My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics 19 years ago
personally, i FUCKIN HATE emo, still, this song manages to trancend it, at least until the end. it astounds me that a band could mature that in a few years. still, this band is garbage overall, i mean come on, their fans would rather cry then mosh? how fuckin weak.

incredibly identifiable song for me. especially the "rock bottom's where we live but yet we still dig these trenches" part. good stuff about finally finding a reason for yourself to live.

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics 19 years ago
to me, this song is extremely patriotic, it's about a vietnam vet comin' home, gettin shit on by the general public, (who at the time were embarassed to admit they were american) yet still proud to say "i was born in the USA" though it ain't perfect, it's still home. and on that note, as part of the american military (USN) it's one of my favorites.

Nightwish – Nemo Lyrics 19 years ago
so you guys know, the character in 20,000 leagues merely called himself Nemo, knowing full well that it meant nobody. call me crazy, but having read both stories of capt. nemo, i think it's about him reflecting on his life, and how he wishes somethings had been different for him, how he wishes he didn't do some of the terrible things he did. regret.and finding solace. that's what this song's about.

Dead Kennedys – Holiday in Cambodia Lyrics 19 years ago
i love this song, it's still so completely relevant to today's society. uber rich white liberal and conservatives think they know what it's like to be poor, uneducated. they think they know what suffering really is. whether it's war, drugs, or poverty, they have no true idea, but they continue to spout what limited knowledge they have *cough* system of a down *cough*. in reality, if they went to another country, (such as iraq) they'd see the true face of all of these things, and maybe then shut their mouths. they've no idea, and i'll hate that as long as i live.

System of a Down – U-Fig Lyrics 19 years ago
you seemed misinformed about what terrorism is. terrorism is a form of warfare. by attacking a support base for whatever cause they oppose, they create an atmosphere of well, fear, by this, they can gain power because people are afraid to oppose them. this is the method of warfare the insurgents in iraq have chosen, therefore, there is no distinction between the insurgents, and the terrorists. if you believe this is not the case, then explain why they use suicide bombing, car bombs and IED's? All of which are common methods used by terrorist organizations. As for the cause for the war, why does that matter now? we have a job to finish, regardless of why it started. As you stated, we did create the monster of Saddam Hussein, is that not a justifiable reason to topple him in itself? to correct a horrid mistake we made out of our own self interests? the bottom line is this, we'll never know the full truth behind this war, but at this point, i don't think that matters, all that matters is winning, (which by the way, militarily, there's not much of a war to speak of anymore, we are winning) and bringing them all home.

System of a Down – Violent Pornography Lyrics 19 years ago
this is the best song they have on this album, seeing as it's one of the few intelligent ones. clearly the song is about television brainwashing people. since they see only what the media wants them to see.

submissions
System of a Down – U-Fig Lyrics 19 years ago
well, first off, the reason for going into iraq, though questionable, is now totally irrelevant. since blood has been shed, the cause has been consecrated. second, yes, if we weren't in iraq right now, the religious extremists would do everything they could to come here, in fact, it's a widely known fact they're here now. and if given the opportunity they in fact WOULD kill you. if they had the chance, they would kill all of us. that's why they do what they do, it's not about oil for them. it's about the fact that we're not one of them. and by the way, do you know who saddam hussein was? the things he did to his OWN people? better yet, go ask any iraqi immigrant. or maybe go take a trip to iraq and ask the kurds. i'm sure they'll tell you he was a great guy. and regardless of who funded him when, that doesn't make what he did right (look at osama bin laden, he was one of our buddies against the commies until the 90's). also, because protests aren't everywhere is precisely the reason we should've went over there, to give them freedom. but now that he's gone, we have a responsibility, to both the iraqi people, and the american people, as any insurgents would gladly come over here now that we've purturbed them. last but not least, the song to me clearly is an attack on troops since it talks about "joining the cause" and earlier on refers to those that do as "flag waving ignorant pigs". trust me on this one, the person who isn't close minded here isn't me. i'm just privy to more experiences and information then you. because i've been there, have friends and family there. and things are never as the media (music, television etc.) makes them out to be. you're simply seeing what they want you to. whether it's right (fox news) or left (cnn).

you know. i look at this, and i realize how stupid these guys became. their songs used to appeal to me, before i joined the military, and had my eyes forcibly opened. these guys understand nothing, believe me on this one. they have no clue what they're talking about. it shows in spades with one line "why do they always send the poor?" please... they have such an infantile view on this subject.

Rob Dougan – Furious Angels Lyrics 19 years ago
anyone notice that the music is extremely simliar to clubbed to death? either way, i think this song's about love, and it's ups and downs, sometimes he wishes he could get away from her, other times he doesn't want her to leave. he feels the bond is so strong, even if one of them wantedto split. heaven itself wouldn't allow it. this song has a definite sense of menace to it. i love it. kinda funny how this song became the matrix theme music....

single handedly the lamest comment i've ever read a. but that's ok. i'll forgive you as you're probrably not an adult. anyways, i think this song is about the hole everybody feels inside. you know what i'm talking about. and how the character in the song fills his hole temporarily with sex. thoguh each time not feeling complete. so he keeps filling it, though he knows inside he's still empty.

yes, system of a down has turned into a band who used to make a lot of abstract statements with their music, but now resorts to attacking troops and spewing propaganda (though they say the goverment is doing it so are they). how sad. i once considered them intelligent people.

Tool – Vicarious Lyrics 19 years ago
this song is seemingly about complacency. people watch war, murder and other terrible things and complain about em. yet do nothing to aid in their removal. or to the effort. maynard said an in interview in revolver that he was sick of watching people act this way, and here's the evidence. way to go maynard. i love this band's music

System of a Down – Soldier Side Lyrics 19 years ago
also, on a comment stated earlier regarding the bible saying suicide comdemns you to hell. this is true, but it also speaks something of war, it states "greater love hath no man then this, that he should give his life for another". this can justify a religious soldier's life. my justification as a sailor is simple. go watch the sept. 11 footage, and ask yourself, "will you fight it? or sit back and do nothing, will you let them beat you because you don't want more sacrifice? will you allow those who died that day to have died for nothing? for those in iraq, will you let their sacrifice go to waste because you can't handle it?" because they can, bring them home without the mission being completed, and everything we've done so far will not only go to hell, it will be invalidated by your fears. it will also prove to the terrorists they can beat us. and that is not acceptable.

america fights to protect it's interests. it's interests are many things. these things change as time goes on. currently our interests are merely our people. and the interests of the iraqis. we must fight to protect ourselves, and to protect those we liberated. all young must go because they know it is right. there's nothing wrong with it. it's a sad thing to watch them die. but know they do not die in vain, so long as we stay the course till the mission is done.

once again system of a down is attacking troops. if they're trying to make a statement about the war, perhaps they should stop calling the troops ignorant, and look at themselves, people who are clearly uninformed but speak what they believe anyways, then go and call those who know better the ignorant ones. this song is the most disgraceful they've made. how dare they.

Megadeth – Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Lyrics 19 years ago
this is probrably my favorite song by megadeth. as a member of the U.S. military i can relate to some of the things said "a country that's divided surely cannot stand". this is a surefire implication in my opinion of how civilians have a tendency to lose heart when things get tough, despite the fact the military and government believe they can win. as such they end up losing whatever endeavor then engage in. as for the rest of the song, i think it examines the view from the outside (the holy wars section) and the latter half is about how people may feel shortly before they join in a Jihad. with the last verse finally being the end result of both opinions. the war. and even though the punishment due is based off the punisher comics (so says mustaine) i still think it can be applied in the above mentioned ideas. this song has never been more poignant in my opinion.

Tool – Vicarious Lyrics 19 years ago
i like the idea of this song, people sit back and watch the world go to hell. instead of getting up and tryin to change it, they'd rather sit. maynard said in an issue of REVOLVER that he's more or less upset with the current american culture, becuase we're unwilling to change things even though we may know them to be wrong or horrible. we just watch vicariously. obviously, that's what this song is about. it's kinda like maynard's way of saying, "i give up" haha i love it

System of a Down – Attack Lyrics 19 years ago
this song aggrevates me, it's clearly a verbal assault, not on the U.S. goverment, but on it's military, seeing as it clearly talks about military ideals *if we fall, all fall* and how we (military) are taught not to fear fighting, but to embrace it. *dreaming of the day we attack*. they then go on to accuse our troops of burning ALL the schools and villages, hospitals and all that. it's shameful, that ANY band would do this. once again, SOAD proves that they truly, have no friggin clue what they're talking about

submissions
System of a Down – Hypnotize Lyrics 19 years ago
another political song, good stuff, it's just too bad they can't see their own banter, for example, "mezmerize the simple minded, propaganda leaves us blinded" they're applying it to the bush administration, whether you believe it or not, that's what they're doing. little do they (or probrably you) realize, that they in turn are churning out their own propaganda and putting it out as truth. fuckbeans. still, they're something undeniably powerful about the lines "why don't you ask the kids at tienemen square, was fashion why they were there..."
