i think this song (though im sure most people dont agree) is about trent's relationship with God. Yes i said it. "it seems everything i've heard, just might be true...sometimes i hate everything but i wish i felt something" i interpret this as trent wanting to believe and have faith in God but he believes he has gone too far from God for God to accept him again and that there is no use to turn back from the path he has chosen: "do you know how far this has gone? just how damaged have I become? when I think I can overcome, it runs even deeper"
And his own demons and temptations which he cannot overcome: "I hear them call, i cannot stay, the voice inviting me away."
Then again he seems to confess of his longing for God but at the same time his hate: "and for once in my life I feel complete, and I still want to ruin it" For those who disagree, here's a little insight - Trent was raised in a strong protestant home and when asked by spin magazine he confessed to believe in God but was not sure of His relevence. - Spin Feb 1990 |
