Feist – I Feel It All Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hmmm, I hear "Gulf Stream through the open door" as opposed to "cops stream through the open door". But I could be completely off. |
SoKo – I'll Kill Her Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Clearly the meaning is pretty obvious. I really, really love the contrast between the music and the lyrics. It's almost ridiculous at times. |
The Mountain Goats – You're So Vain (Carly Simon cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
His voice on the last two lines is amazing. |
Interpol – Roland Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"oh look it stopped snowing" As much as I love Interpol, I'll be the first to admit Banks' lyrics are a little weak. That one in particular is so hilariously random. |
Belle & Sebastian – The Model Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I wonder if it's also the same Lisa from "She's Losing It" or "Like Dylan in the Movies"... |
The Apples in Stereo – Stephen, Stephen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From PowerPuff Girls to the one of the awesomest shows ever... Robert Schneider has come a long way! |
Belle & Sebastian – I Love My Car Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I find the Beach Boys reference to be ridiculously random... |
Tullycraft – Twee Lyrics | 18 years ago |
bezoomny, those are pretty creative ideas for Boscoe and Bruno. However, Tullycraft is actually referring to "Frank Boscoe" and "Franklin Bruno", who are often confused because of their similar sounding names. Franklin Bruno was the leader of the band "Nothing Painted Blue" (who Tullycraft referenced in "Pop Songs...") and Frank Boscoe was the leader of the band "Vehicle Flips". |
The Replacements – Alex Chilton Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm in love. With that song. This is my favourite Replacements song. The chorus at the end just gets me. |
The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The first time I heard this song, I wasn't really concentrating on it, and i actually thought it was a pretty happy, bouncy sort of song. But then I actually listened to the lyrics... I definetely agree thordfoss. The melody is so contradictory to the venom that's behind the lyrics. |
We Are Scientists – This Scene Is Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
doesn't any one recognize sarcasm anymore? pegz, let me clear it up: it's a joke. |
Stabilo – Everybody Lyrics | 18 years ago |
one hit wonder, sadly. the song is great though, i get all nostalgic when i hear it. |
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Timorous Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Is the apple tree a reference to Johnny Appleseed? |
Minus the Bear – Hooray Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think the song's about how winter and the magic of a first snowfall can turn everyone into a little kid again. Brilliant song. The chorus can still catch me by surprise every so often, it's just so unexpected. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think that whereisjeff has got this song down pretty well, and I'd just like to add to it a bit. It's definetely about Anne Frank because of Jeff's "Live at Jittery Joe's" intro. I think it is sung from Anne's perspective. However, I think the "Daddy" referred to at the beginning is probably Anne's father. In her diary she says that she feels closest to him, and she always refers to him as "daddy", not father or dad. I'd say that a lot of the song after the first verse is about Anne's confusion about Peter Van Daan and Peter Wessel. Before being forced to live in the Annex, Anne was in love with Peter Wessel, and later in her diary she dreams about his cheek against hers. "I'm still wanting my face on your cheek", as it says in the song. But once in the Annex, she turns to Peter Van Daan because he is the only boy she has contact with. She sees him more as a brother, thouugh, and he is the brother referred to in the song. Peter later dies, and it seems that Jeff assumes he was shot. I think that maybe the two-headed boy reference is her confusion between her love for both Peters. She transfers her love for Peter Wessel onto Peter Van Daan, and so she sort of sees them as one person. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – The King of Carrot Flowers Pts. 2 and 3 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Here's what Magnum wrote in the liner notes: (there are no full stops in the original) "a song for a old friend and a song for a new friend and now a song for Jesus Christ and since this seems to confuse people I'd like to simply say that I mean what I sing although the theme of endless endless on this album is not based on any religion but more in the belief that all things seem to contain a white light within them that i see as eternal" Cryptic, and possibly intentionally confusing. I think that there's a lot of darker imagery in this song and others on the album, with lines like "inside my mum in a garbage bin". Perhaps the first part of the song is about needing to put your faith in something (like Jesus), when you live in such a sad world. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's funny how this song starts off so upbeat, but by the end the lyrics make me want to cry, especially the chorus and last two lines. |
The Go! Team – Huddle Formation Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I just listened to it again, and it is definetely "cause we can't hear a thing". |
The Go! Team – Huddle Formation Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wow, I'm hearing completely different lyrics for the first verse and chorus... "All these beats Working on the streets Jumping, Jacking {unintelligible} We'll be proud So say your name If you come around, You can hear me sing Banging on the door Can we come in and sing? Shouting down the crowd Cause we can all sing" I'm probably wrong though. |
Belle & Sebastian – Expectations Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't believe no one has commented on this! It's one of my favourite B & S songs... It's such a great represenatation of high school. |
Architecture in Helsinki – The Owls Go Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Same, The Owls Go was the first AIH song that I ever listened to. I absolutely love the band and I still think this is their best song. |
Belle & Sebastian – The State I Am In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love this song. The line, "So I gave myself to god, There was a pregnant pause before he said ok" is just brilliant. I like the green card marriage reference, too. |
