first of all this song is NOT by a static lullaby.. i thought that too for a long time and i always thought it was weird that they had no screaming in it.... its a common misconception that this is ASL, you can find the lyrics under their band name on alot of sites... sorry to dissapoint but this is actually by a band called "days away", check it out for yourself... lyric corrections... i agree with whoever said that the lyrics sound like any other matchbox song (which is good) they are my favorite band so, yeah... and also, for all of you saying rob sold out by turning "pop"? ha! matchbox twenty has always been mainly cosidered a pop styled band and sumtimes a pop-rock band but never solely rock. so i guess rob is pop now even without his band so he didnt sell out for shit! the only thing different was the beat which i do agree did have too much of a "pop" effect. peace |

i think the songs bout a broken relationship. well now that i know its not i cant say that lol, but for anyone who can relate to music the song can be about anything they want... so.... "Something is wrong With the sum of us That I can't seem to erase" so many people (the sum) who get heart broken cant get over their loss of love and have trouble getting by. he knows this and can't help but dwell on it. "How can I be The only one Without a smile on my face" he knows others are not smiling too, alot of people, yet there isnt anyone around him who is as sad as him, hence he is the only one without a smile on his face. "When now You're laughing out loud At just the thought of being alive" he now sees how happy his former lover is now that he's out of the picture and she is lively and excited about life once again. "And I was wondering Could I just be you tonight?" he is hurting from the sad ending of their relationship and he wishes he could get over it as fast as she and not hurt so much, hence "could i just be you tonight" "You show your pain Like it really hurts" like many people they still talk every so often and she sumtimes empathises that she too still hurts and tries hard to make it believable, hence "like it really hurts" "And I can't even Start to feel mine" this does not, to me, say he doesnt hurt. i take it as he hurts so deeply it has numbed him and he cant even begin to get ahold of his emotions. "And I'm standing in place With my head first" he is still in the same position when they broke it off (im standin in place)...he once thought with his heart now he can only think with his mind, hence "with my head first" basically he knows now that he cannot let his heart do all the thinking for him, he has to use his head to rationalize and see truth from now on. "And I shake, I shake" he is overwhelmed by his emotions and is basically tense and a nervous wreck all the time from constant thought which leads to anxiety and fear he'll never move on. "And I see your progress Stretched out for miles And miles" he sees how good she is getting along and how much she has improved without him. "This is the sound that I make These are the words I chose" he would like to cry out (the sound) and express himself to her what he is going through. he knows in his mind what he means and repeats and recomposes what he would like to say to her over and over, "hence "these are the words i chose" "But somehow the right thing to say Just won't come out" he knows if he tried to explain anything or everything he would most likely mess up what he truely meant to say and always say to himself "i should have said this, or that" thats my take on that song, matchbox has been for a long time my favorite band and always will be... i have alot of feeling for all their songs and i can deeply relate to the sad lyrics of their sad songs.. by the way, that take on the song from me stemmed deeply from a relationship i had of five years that ended seven months ago... every word of this song seems like its coming from MY mind when im listening to it, it's that relative to me. peace. |

i was in a relationship of five years that ended almost seven months ago. it started out great and it turned to shit after that. she always seemed to me to be two different people. when it was me and her she was the person i fell in love with (except for when we'd fight) but when it was us and other people around she kinda ignored me and didnt show affection and was pretty much a bitch. we fought alot becuz of this and alot of other shit. when she would get mad at me she would say harsh things and just be down right cruel... so i always thought she wasnt too happy with me and the person i seen when we werent alone was indeed who she really was, that being her "better half". here is my interpritation of this song, its what i get out of it after a hurtful personal experiance. "you surprise me, im looking out" in a fight he is shocked at how mean she can be to sumone she supposidly loves and he is giving her distance. "surprise me you jump back up onto your feet sumhow" how can you get over our fight so fast, act like nothing happened and pretend to be so happy? that shows you dont care much for me and its killing me still while i sit and dwell on that thought. "where'd you go" what happened to the person i fell in love with? "seems like your better half said it all" when he sees the transition, he sees thats who she has become and she is speaking in truth. even tho she may apolagize, he knows there is truth behind such cruel statements and actions, whatever they may be in that situation. "your wonderful" your so much like you were when we started out when your not angry with me or not around your "friends", essentialy when your fake and insencere. thats what this song means to me.... |
