Someone said something about biting your own neck as being vampiric, but I think it could be a reference to itching. Cats with fleas, a lot of times, will bite their shoulders and upper body to scratch themselves. So scratching your own itch, as in basically being selfish and "scratching an itch" which could be other women or things that you don't feel that the woman you're with can satisfy. |

| Manchester Orchestra – I'd Rather Have Lyrics

To me it feels like he's in love with someone, but they're incredibly selfish ("I think that "I" is the only word in your vocabulary tonight"), and he's coming to this realization and becoming angry (coping with the break-up or breaking-up). ("Loudly I thought to myself "God, how do I find myself here again and again") But, still, he really loves her. Even if you're hurt by someone, you can still care, and you still have feelings for them, so he would "rather have a broken heart" and wait for her to come back to him and for things to fix themselves than "give up hope on [her]" and he's willing to wait as long as he has to. ("We've got all the time that we need") |

I love this song, but it's so cryptic. I can't say I can discern what any of it means. I mean, there are pieces that make sense, but they seem to make sense by themselves and not fit into a general flowing theme.
Also, I don't get the impression most fans own the stuff all the way back to the self-titled album like "us" :) |

Ozzmotic mentioned the discrepancy between the use of "and" and "or", but I get the impression that the divorce is the war. They're trying to discuss it, and work it out, but if she walks away from the table a divorce (war) will ensue. |

Haha. My interpretation is coloured very much by my own personal experiences too--but that's the beautiful thing about music and interpreting it. It can mean whatever you want it to. It's about the emotions it inspires within you or the memories it recalls. |

I think there may be a lyric discrepancy. I think it's "Never an honest work, but that was when I ruled the world." You can hear it the last time he sings it at the very end as the music is dying off. |

I'm not sure that it's necessarily obsessive love. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this how most people feel after a break-up with someone they truly care about?
The lines I don't quite follow are: "Murder me Rachel, I've made a mistake. Murder me Rachel. Murder me Rachel." Does he mean here that he made whatever mistake that broke them up, and now she might as well kill him because he's so depressed? Also, "So say goodbye to pretty boy." This part seems really dark--like he wants to kill "pretty boy"?
I get the vibe from this song that it's about falling madly in love with Rachel--so much so that he pushes her away. It could be about any kind of reason for break-up, but I get the impression that it's about him pushing her away because of the way the second stanza goes. It seems to imply that the mistake mentioned on either side of loving her to ribbons was just that--that he loved her too much.
Great song. All of their songs are amazing, but the real energy songs like Abel, Mr. November, Murder Me Rachel, an Available will always have a special place in my heart. |

Sonicsea--Agnostic literally means "not knowing". If you do not believe in God, you are an Atheist. Agnosticism is a belief in a higher power--but not knowing what it is.
As for this song, I don't get a drug-vibe from it. Drug references, I think, are too easily nailed to songs. Bright.Eyed.Girl seems to be on the right path. "But if we try, to lift up our eyes, replacing the lies, we own this moment." I got the same impression from this line--that it's more about taking things in life for granted, and when we open our eyes to what we have and what it's worth, we're much happier. Almost like a Buddhist Nirvana, or awakening.
I think the novocaine reference is again a reference to our own ignorance to what we have--this numbs us. If we were aware of the pain, though, it would help us rise. |

Reading down I was going to add things, but Crimson11 beat me to every comment I had, lol. I didn't catch the membrane reference, but I agree on the Angel Dust/Vial conclusion and the Abel reference seems to be a reference to paranoia either while on the drug, or when coming down from the high. |

| U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday Lyrics

This song IS written by U2 and IS about northern ireland. Its about Bloody Sunday in Derry on January 30th 1972 where 13 innocent people were shot in the backs while running in between flats (apartment buildings) and were shot by the british paramilitarys. The para's are the british equivalent of the marines. It was a huge cover up by the british government. They planted bombs on people they killed and said they were members of the now disbanded IRA. The IRA in fact were on the other side of Derry in the waterside and the first shots were fired by paras up on the walls. They have radio transmissions recorded of them firing. There are books on Bloody Sunday and i have read a few of which i cannot remember the names but there is a movie that was made because of one of the books and i think its called Bloody Sunday. When Bono had the outburst in the concert on the Rattle and Hum tape he was refering to a bomb in Enniskillin which killed i think 18 people. There was a parade for a protestant paramilitary and they blew up a bomb. All the medics and army men ran in and another bomb, an even bigger bomb, hidden under the first was detonated killing more people. I am irish and i'm from Belfast, Northern Ireland. This is one of the things i like to study and have read a lot about. This is by far my favorite song of all time and the couple of times i was at U2 concerts made me cry. U2 ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
