It turns out that Brandon Flowers is a mormon and they believe that God is a person somewhere. This could make sense of lyrics like 'heaven ain't far away' and 'heaven ain't close in a place like this' from Somebody Told Me, because if God is out there then presumably heaven is a place that can be found on earth. |

This is about how greed separates people and stops them communicating. The burned bridges are about the past before greed sets in and as people get older they lose sight of what's important. 'there's a hunger still unsatisfied' says how greed is never satisfied. 'our thoughts strayd constantly' perhaps means they're too narrow minded now.
I can't believe The Division Bell album is so unpopular, it's fantstic. |

Of course, 'I 've given all I can but we're still on the payroll' it means despite the karma police and this guy's best efforts the bad shit is still happening so they're still employed. He's so broken up about it cos he doesn't want to have to do this job. So obvious now I think about it. |

I think it's about this guy who really wants to make people pay for their wrongdoing,"this is what you get when you mess with us" but then realizes he's getting carried away "for a minute there I lost myself" and instead of being hellbent on making people pay, we should be forgiving etc. Awesome song. |

I reckon this could be about a terrorist on a plane. You know - 'it's gonna be a glorious day', 'pull me out of the aircrash','the head of state is calling for me by name'. His luck could change after the event - aircrash or whatever - because his cause would have been made known. |
