Definitely a big Bowie tribute, but considering they frequently play Bowie songs, it's not a big surprise. Awesome song, too! |

Yeah, this is a clever one. Whilst the original version is all about compassion and support, no matter what, this one sounds almost like a personal devil is making the same offer: but in this case, the offer to hear your prayers is more a sort of coaxing, the kind of offer where you buy now, pay later. The line about "Flesh and bone by the telephone.
Lift up the receiver I'll make you a believer." doesn't sound so much to be support, but almost like "you're only human, temptation will win...so here's the offer...call me when you want it. MWO HA HAHAHAHAA!" Or that could just be me. |

In my opinion, this is one of the best songs JC ever wrote. I had heard it before seeing Dawn Of The Dead, but it just fit the tone so well. The film being about the end of civilization in catastrophe and terro being a strong parallel to apocalypse (sidenote: the director, Zach Snyder said that the studio really didn't want this song, or Richard Cheese's version of "Down With The Sickness" to be used...they must be pulling the feet out of their collective mouths still...) |

I always took it to mean that when the opportunity that Buddy had been waiting for arose, he took it without a second thought, not even for his own safety (he would have had to have lost that fight to take the shot - "He never lost a fight on his ice he patrolled.") And the heavenly was just an apt way to sum up the whole experience, as the Finn "cold-cocked Buddy on his follow-through." That doesn't necessarily imply death, just game over.
WZ was a god. :) |
