now for some real analysis: . It’s the type of song that most people at some point in their lives can relate to. Feeling hurt, lost or “left out in the dark” is a common human emotion. In a lonely world, people have to fend for themselves. The speaker in this song could take the form of any normal person. One would assume that it’s most likely told through the viewpoint of a frustrated young boy or girl going through adolescence, due to the fact that many teens feel this way, that the world is overwhelming. That could be the case, or it could be told through the point of view from anyone who feels down. The attitude conveyed in the lyrics is downbeat, depressed, and left out. The speaker’s perspective is social, and comments on how the world is unfair, cold, and unforgiving. It can be seen that the writer of this song wants to fit in with society, but is unable to. The overall theme of the song is about feeling left out, like you have no place and that no one is going to go out of their way to help you. It is very emotional, and gets it point across with fairly straight forward lyrics. The lyrics are in a formal structure. It has stanzas that connect, sticking with the main point, or verses if you will. . Many of the lines in the stanzas are questions. It seems as though the speaker is asking another these questions, and when the audience sees how horrible this person’s life is, the speaker responds with the title, “Welcome to my life”. The setting could be anytime. It could be now or it could be 100 or more years ago. It doesn’t have much to do with the overall theme, and it doesn’t really matter because anybody at any point in time can feel pain and hurt. There are a few lines here that can be seen as imagery. “With their big fake smiles and stupid lies, while deep inside you’re bleeding”. The writer puts up with all the lies from others and tries to put on a happy face, but deep down their hurting more than anyone could imagine. “…no one ever stabbed you in the back”. This line refers to being betrayed by someone you trusted, and the shock and hurt that the betrayed person feels is deep seated inside them. Almost every line in this song relates directly to the main theme. The verse in a song that repeats is called the chorus, and these generally tend to be the most important part of the song. That could be said for “Welcome To My Life”. Simple Plan is a band that tends to write upbeat sounding songs with downbeat depressing lyrics. Perhaps they do this so that the lyrics will stick in the listener’s minds. “Welcome to My Life” is an upbeat sounding song musically, however the lyrics are quite the opposite. Also this could create a sense of irony. This song evokes feeling of sympathy in the reader/listener. The questioning of the reader by the speaker (ex. “Do you ever feel like breaking down? Do you ever feel out of place? Etc..”) makes the reader want to say, ‘Why no, I haven’t had to experience that’, and the speaker seems almost to be saying something like ‘Your lucky your life isn’t this bad.’ This is a very easy song to relate to. Everyone can get upset about something, and can feel like their the only ones who can understand themselves. It is universal. These are fairly straight forward lyrics, and they are made that way so that people can understand them. The view on the world expressed here are grim. According to the writer, it’s a lonely world, and you have to fend for yourself. This song focuses on human brokenness and pain, that the world is a dangerous, uncertain place in which the only sure ground of meaningfulness to be found is in a close human relationship. Us human beings have contained within us a whole spectrum of emotions. Events that occur in our lives may make us feel a certain way. A song such as this one with such deep emotional ties not only expresses the point of view of the writer, it expresses the point of view through anyone and everyone at some point. Things taken for granted is a path for destruction, because one never knows when it all will suddenly be gone, and all that they worked in their lives will seem insignificant when you’re all alone. |

| by far my favorite song by this band. the writer wants a girl, and he's doing all this crazy shit but in the end he can't get her and he's "destined to spend my time missing you". really sucks when you're in that situation. great sounding song. really catchy. it's funny cause i never get sick of it. awesome tune. | |

| ok, first off i just wanted to comment on some of the really negative comments. people can like simple plan if they want to. they don't deserve to be called fags or losers or anything. passionate music: what you said has to be the dumbest thing i've ever read. you don't go telling people to cut their throats because you don't like their music, you douchebag. people are allowed to have their own opinions. i personally enjoy listening to this band. the songs are upbeat (though not the lyrics), fun to listen to, you find yourself singing along to them. i mean, they put me in a good mood. and who cares if they are "punk" or not, i don't. they have good rythem and catchy songs, and there is nothing wrong with simple plan or anyone who likes them. now as for this song, really good, really catchy, love the tune, nice upbeat sounding energetic song with the normal downbeat simple plan lyrics. the only thing i don't understand is how their personal lives are this bad. i mean, they're rich and famous, but they've always written songs with this theme, so why change now, i guess. anyway, simple plan are a-okay, it's ok if you don't agree, but just keep all that harsh criticism to yourself, let the people who like them like them, and you go listen to whatever it is you listen to. this way we can all be happy. | |
| The All-American Rejects – Swing, Swing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| good sounding catchy song about a guy who loses a girl and obviously still loves her, and it kills him inside to see her with other guys. i can relate because a girl i loved broke up with me for seemingly no reason, and it really hurt me, but we're back together now :) anyway, nice sounding song. | |
| Green Day – Blood, Sex and Booze Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| catchy song. pretty much about bondage and dominatrices, not real hidden meanings people. a little odd though, maybe the singer's a little screwed up "throw me to the dogs, let them eat my flesh down to the wood, it feels so good" since when did that feel good? not odd lyrics for older green day, though | |
| Collective Soul – Shine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i agree with wezer1007. i think this is collective soul's best song overall. the sing sounds so musically beautiful and it works so well. collective soul are a very good band, i don't think enough people realize that. a shame, really. | |
| Collective Soul – December Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| one of collective soul's best. this band really is underrated, they're one of my favorites. but at least they're not overplayed like some bands these days. this song seems to have a deep meaning, and collective soul are not a band known to write songs about sex or blowjobs. | |
| Aqua – Barbie Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this is without question the most annoying song on the face of the planet. i regret ever having listened to it. like fucking super glue. gets stuck in the head soooo easily. it's not cool when youre out with your friends and youre humming that youre a barbie girl (cause im a guy). abosolutely horrible song. | |
| Tears for Fears – Mad World Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| dig65 you must see donnie darko, it is an excellent movie. but anyway, i have never heard the tff version of it, only the jules cover. i love the jules version. the lyrics fit so well with the melody. ive heard that the tff version is kind of too upbeat for the lyrics. this song played over and over again in my head my first few days of college. i didn't know anybody and felt alone. "went to school and i was very nervous. no one knew me, no one knew me...". | |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| good song, however it is extremely overplayed. i gave it the nickname "the most played song in the history of radio". still an excellent song. even my old dad likes it. he's in his 40s and he likes this song! not their best song though. holiday is green day's best song of all time, even out of their old stuff. | |
| Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Collective Soul – Shine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i first heard this song when my uncle put it on a vacation video when my family went to new hampshire. this song always reminds me of vacations. i used to think about it in school and i would get sad because i wasnt on any vacations. one of my top 3 favorite songs of all time. (REM-Imitation of Life, Collective Soul-Shine, Green Day-Holiday) | |
| R.E.M. – Imitation Of Life Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i agree with punk princess. i think this song is about how adolescence is a sort of prelude to real life, an imitation of being an adult. ps this is the best song by rem. i used to like losing my religion, but that was before i heard this one. | |
| Green Day – Holiday Lyrics | 20 years ago |
