The Fiery Furnaces – Blueberry Boat Lyrics 18 years ago
The opening lines are about the speaker's childhood on the coast, guiding her small Sunfish sailboat uneasily around the marina, stealing booze from lazy, super-rich people who are playing mini-golf on their yacht while listening to the "tape on [volume level] 10". Its interesting how latter on, as an adult, HER ship is boarded by pirates. OMG SO MANY LEVELS

Sunset Rubdown – Us Ones in Between Lyrics 19 years ago
Initially, I got a completely different interpretation. I think that Krug's lover is about to break up with him. She's filled with bad news thats about to hit him all at once, like a well that contains a waterfall, or a wrecking ball that's about to level him, and he knows it. He himself feels like the lightening rod watching the storm approach, as he knows what he has coming. But he loves her and actually tells her to go through with it (You should always pass when you got the inside lane). All the talk about good guys and bad guys and him in between is his confirming that he's not such a great guy, but not a horrible one, either. Still, he understands and accepts his fate (I am a creature, I am surviving) even though he still loves her (I want your body). All he wants is for her to be gentle when she lets him down (mother me/before you eat me). He also comforts her and tells her that he'll be alright (creature/surviving again, but also: Don't pull your hair out/ I won't pull my hair out), because everyone in this world had problems (I have never seen a sun that did not bury its head in the side of the world when the day is done) and he's willing to cope with if it'll make her happy. But I don't know, that's just my interpretation. I know how much Krug hates it when people delve into his lyrics too much. An absolutely gorgeous song.

Sunset Rubdown – The Men are Called Horsemen There Lyrics 19 years ago
First, I'm pretty sure it's "crouch like a leopard" and "trample the shepard, love." Crouch makes much more sense, and I'm almost positive in listening to it.

But yeah, I'd say that's a pretty good interpretation, though I always felt like he was trying to convince a lover or a female friend not to move to Spain, because he's seen how the women there are treated (i.e. the prostitution and "sluts in Spain"). He compares women to horses (stay with me here...), which explains all the allusions to breaking and taming horses, like strapping them up with reigns and putting bows in their hair, expecting them to be docile and obedient. But Krug knows that this woman is wild and beautiful, and he loves her too much to allow this person to go to Spain and risk being tamed, so he tells her how if he were in her position, he'd resist those who try to restrain him by throwing up the reigns, crouching like a leopard (waiting to strike...) and then trampling shepards. Pretty awesome image. Easily my favorite song on the album.
