The sun going down line to me means that there are a lot of things we don't understand - we used to think that the sun moved in relation to the earth until scientists came up with a new theory, so how do we know that when people die they're really gone? A lot of things in life are cyclical, I think this line is a reference to reincarnation.
"Do you realize: that happiness makes you cry" is saying that things are not always what they seem - it's another way of looking at being happy or sad - if you didn't have the good times, the bad ones wouldn't seem so terrible. |

To me it seems like making a point about the way that beliefs are formed in the first place - "I can see scary things happening, but then I turn out to be safe in the end, so there must be someone protecting me." It's a point about religion being a response to not understanding what's really going on. |
