Thrice – Lullaby Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is a sort of lyrical tribute to Lennon's "Imagine."

Thrice – For Miles Lyrics 20 years ago
John 15:13
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

This song is about making the best of one's time on Earth. We must reach each other and love one another, even to the point that we would die for our loved ones.

It's interesting to note that the beginning of the song is concerned with the end of mortal life, and then the song goes into what we should do while we are still alive.

Simply put, a song about being "children of God". Beautiful lyrics.

Thrice – Stand And Feel Your Worth Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about knowing the power of faith/salvation. There are several Biblical allusions ("wrought with breath and dirt" - God made Adam of earth and breathed life into him; "second birth" - Christ said "you must be born again").

Wrapping one's knees in earth = kneeling, perhaps in prayer (by which one will be wrapped "in light" by the presence of God).

As to what "the word" itself is: it is most likely connected directly with salvation from a Christian standpoint. "Lord" and "Jesus" are good possibilities.

Thrice – Hold Fast Hope Lyrics 20 years ago
This song, much like "Like Moths to Flame", is a lyrical retelling of a Bible story.

In this case, it is the story of Jonah; his running away from God; his being cast into the sea; his being swallowed by a great fish ("ribs will raise cathedrals").

Thrice – Like Moths To Flame Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is a literal retelling of Peter's betrayal of Jesus. Out of all the Passion narratives, these lyrics match Luke's the best (key is Christ looking at Peter after his betrayal).

For a comparison, read Luke 22:1-34, 54-62: http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/luke/luke22.htm#v1

Thrice – Image of the Invisible Lyrics 20 years ago
Note: Caps are added for emphasis, not to be annoying.

"We're more than carbon and chemicals
Free will is ours and we can't let go
We can't allow this, the quiet cull
So we sing out this, our canticle
We are the image of the invisible"

* Colossians 1:15 - "He is the IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE God, the firstborn of all creation."

"We all were lost now we are found"

* Luke 15:3-7
"Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."

* From the hymn "Amazing Grace"
"I once WAS LOST but now AM FOUND."

"No one can stop us or slow us down"

* Isaiah 40:31
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

"We are all named"

* Isaiah 49:2
"The LORD called me before I was born; while I was in my mother's womb HE NAMED ME."

"And we are all known"

* Jeremiah 1:5
"Before I formed you in the womb I KNEW YOU."

* Psalm 139:1-4
"O LORD, you have searched me and YOU KNOW ME. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD."

"We know that we'll never walk alone"

* Psalms 23:1-4
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for THOU ART WITH ME; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

"We're more than static and dial tone
We're emblematic of the unknown
Raise up the banner, bend back your bows"

* Isaiah 62:10-12
"Pass through, pass through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!
Remove the stones.
RAISE A BANNER for the nations.

The LORD has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth:
"Say to the Daughter of Zion,
'See, your Savior comes!
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.' "

They will be called the Holy People,
the Redeemed of the LORD;
and you will be called Sought After,
the City No Longer Deserted."

"Remove the cancer, take back your souls
We are the image of the invisible

Though all the world may hate us"

* John 15:18, 21
"When the WORLD HATES YOU, remember it hated me before it hated you...The people of the WORLD WILL HATE YOU because you belong to me, for they don't know God who sent me."

"We are named
Though shadow overtake us"

* Psalms 23:4
"Yea, though I WALK through the valley of the SHADOW of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me."

* Psalm 139:11-12
"If I say, "Surely the DARKNESS WILL HIDE ME and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you."

"We are known."
-------------
The song is a rallying call. I believe it is a rallying call for Christian youth, and the sources I have pointed out overwhelmingly support this interpretation.

HOWEVER, feel free to interpret Thrice however you like. Maybe it's a rallying call for monkeys to stop throwing poo at each other. It's your call in the end.

And the whole "Thrice isn't a Christian band" thing... No. They're not a Christian band. But 3 of the 4 members are openly Christians, Dustin went to the Bible studies during Warped Tour, and lyrics to songs like "A Torch to End All Torches", "Stand And Feel Your Worth", and "Like Moths to Flame" (a literal retelling of Peter's betrayal of Jesus) are solid proof that Thrice DOES write about both faith and the Bible. Sure, they write about a lot of other things like society in general, but to automatically rule out any Christian interpretation is pure ignorance.
