| Ronnie Day – half moon bay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song seems to be about celebrating old memories, waxing nostalgic about the past and the summer days by the beach. That's what I think of when I hear this song; I can feel the sun on my face, hear the waves crashing next to me. I'm from Half Moon Bay too, so I just love the song all the more. :] |

| Zero 7 – Somersault Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
You're the warmth in my summer breeze You're the ivory to my ebony keys You would share your last jelly bean You would somersault in sand with me Gets me every time. This is such a cute song - it encapsulates within 7 minutes that heart-soaring and gut-clenching feeling of being young, in love, and absolutely enamored with your significant other. =] |

| Simon and Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm going with the social commentary interpretation of the song. It just doesn't really fit too well with the Graduate or with some addiction problem for me. The Joe DiMaggio thing works much better as a metaphor for the picture perfect facade covering (or predating) the tumultuous reality. | |
| Neil Young – Ohio Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
They very well could've thought it was about love. Anything can happen. And there are so many typos in those lyrics... Anyways, this is a great song. We listened to it in AP US history last year along with some other songs (What the World Needs Now - Tom Clay) and there were more than a few red eyes in the room. It's a terrible tragedy, but I wonder why similar events across the country at around the same time period didn't get the same recognition.. |

| Mandalay – Beautiful Lyrics | 19 years ago |

EDIT: I meant "myself" And also, that comment was about the 7" Canny Remix version of the song, the one they played at the end of Iron-Jawed Angels, which was a a great movie. I love how the singer almost sounds like she's shivering. The effect is this light, dreamy, ethereal feeling |

This song is amazing. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual meaning of this song, but whenever I hear it, I think back to my 8th grade trip to Washington DC. That was when I was still living in the US and I had this intense crush (haha) on this guy in school, which worked out horribly, and combined with having to move to a different country and deal with frequent anxiety attacks, that year tore me apart emotionally and packaged me nicely for a trip to the psychiatrist. However, my DC trip was just the start all of that, so this song really pulls up those nostalgic feelings and stands as a reminder to much I can lose if I don't believe in oneself... or think of myself as "beautiful" So yeah, everytime I hear this song, it's a mixture of inspiration and nostalgia; I'm at once elated and close to tears. |

| Avril Lavigne – My Happy Ending Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
And in reply to some really ... rather idiotic comments about people who hate Avril being "jealous," I can assure you that as much as I hate her, I'm definitely not jealous. I'll let you know when my life dream is to show my buttcrack on national television. Well actually, that's insta-fame, so never mind. As for talent, you can't judge talent based on success. I mean, look at most of these big "artists" in North America? Cookie-cutter molds. Avril may be breaking the mold somewhat, but she's just as bad and pretty much just as talentless except this one song. And even here, she's sort of shrieking in the non-artsy way and almost yodelling. |

| Avril Lavigne – My Happy Ending Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is the only song of Lavigne's that I enjoy. I absolutely hate all the other crud she puts out on a regular basis, but this song (however trite and trivial the lyrics are) holds a special place in my heart. I heard it for the first time in, of all places, Tokyo, Japan. I was shopping in Harajuku and suddenly the song came out of nowhere and I suppose I just identified with the whole "You were all the things I thought I knew, And I thought we could be, You were everything, Everything I wanted, We were meant to be, Supposed to be, All this time you were pretending, So much for my happy ending" sort of thing. I had just been completely turned into emotional roadkill by a guy who faked his way through our very very brief "relationship" and afterwards, told all his friends how much of a stalker I was and according to some people, that he only went out with me so people wouldn't question his sexuality. Middle school relationships are awesome, especially if it was your first and you were positively obsessed with the boy for the longest time. And that was also the summer before I packed up my belongings and moved to Shanghai, China from California (hooray for expats) Anyways, I almost cried hearing it and to turn a long story short, to this day, it's the only listenable Avril song I know. |

| Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman – Come What May Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is so beautiful! Or maybe it's just Ewan McGregor. But, whatever. I agree that some of the lyrics are rather corny and much of it is very cliche, but I love how it's put together. This movie is spectacular (though I'm not a fan of Luhrmanns' Romeo&Juliet) |

| Les Misérables – I Dreamed A Dream Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Ah, I adore this song. Though I have say half the Fantines I've heard are sort of iffy. The song is lovely though. Though I do have to say why people keep on thinking Les Miserables is about the French Revolution? And they're being so indignant and uppity about it. No, it wasn't about the French Revolution. Just look at the dates. -And yes, I have read the book and seen the musical (which I worship! does anybody know if the national tour is REALLY closing in the States?- |
