I love this song. I think it's about getting older and waiting for change and realizing you have to make the change. If you just live in the past and wait for things to change life will move by too quickly.
I could be wrong though, I'm taking it very much at face value and usually OLP goes deeper than that. =) |

I LOVE this song...and I love that I'm the first to comment on it. I don't think that's happened before, haha.
Anyway, I think it's pretty much about not giving up no matter how bad things appear to be and that we can make a difference.
Not necessarily because of the lyrics, but this is one of my favorite songs from the new album, as much as I hate to admit it it's probably because it's so catchy.

Thanks! I haven't listened to much more than just this song but I am sooo excited about their new album! I definitely hear healthy in paranoid times in this song, which makes sense. Not to mention in all fairness to the band they had to develope. Music does change within 10 years...and they've been around longer than that. I think it's just as deep as anything and can't wait for the new album!!!

To be honest, if you were true OLP fans I don't think you'd see innocent and somewhere out there as their big unique songs...no offense. I did like gravity and all, but that was not even close to their best album! Naveed, clumsy, and even happiness... were much more unique in my opinion. And to be honest they've only been my favorite band since I found them in 2000, I know there are people who have known about them much longer and are much bigger fans.
And, for the record, I do like this song but I agree that it's pretty mainstream and poppy...but their last album was kind of like that and I liked it anyway.
Thanks for reading my blabbing, sorry, apart from a few songs I was not the biggest fan of gravity in comparison to other olp albums.
Not to sound too cheesy, but some of their older albums really did in my opinion "save my life", or at least got me through some rough stuff. |

I think this is definitely about life changes and how they affect relationships.
I don't think he is happy where he is in life and it doesn't have to do with the girl he is singing to because he loves her very much, but he knows making the changes he needs to make for himself will "make her sad" (as in he might move away or need a break from being tied down). He doesn't want to hurt her but he has to do what he has to do. I agree it could be a move, career change, etc.
Beautiful song, and I agree-VERY emotional. Anyone who has been on either side of this type of situation couldagree with the bittersweet difficulty...
My favorite line is "what if it makes u laugh now but cry as u fall asleep" because I think we've all had moments like those.

this reminds me of one of my best friends. i always adored him for who he was, but he always wanted to be one of the "cool kids". as soon as he started being accepted by other people he became a jerk in the sense that he would low me off and lie about everything he was doing. he would tell me stories and i know they werent true...but all he would have to do was come back around and id always forgive him, always do forgive him actually, because i love who he always was and who he is deep down. i always tell him he doesnt need to try around me, i just accept him. i love the line "i think ur friends will forgive u, or maybe im just speaking for me". very typical of our relationship |

this song is an inspiration. it is saying that she is going to be who she is, and thats it. shes unique and she knows shes a good enough person, and the person she is talking to might not appreciate that now but when he truely discovers who she is he'll be sorry he missed out. at least thats my interpretation. i love the 32 flavors metaphor. my favorite is the last verse about not giving her life meaning by demeaning you...not a sait. i love that because so many people try to bring themselves up by bringing others down and thats not what shes doing, she doesnt need to. and shes saying also she is happy the way she is, she doesnt need to be perfect. there is just so much to be said about this song...its amazing. |

no shit, awesome song. makes me think wayyy too much of my ex and i. we were best friends for 6 or 7 years, then we dated for 2. we knew we werent right for each other, but once we had been "lovers" we couldnt go back to just being best friends. it was really hard to break up, but it was more like we gave up (called it quits) and he was my best friend before we dated, so hes more my exfriend than exbf, and before that he was my best friend. we tried being friends again, but we just always got back together, bad plan and probably for the wrong reasons. its honestly really depressing to think about for me...but this song just makes me think of it and because its fob and its upbeat its ok. |

i think this song is just about people trying to be better...again, not pointing fingers, just everyone. I think he is just out enjoying nature and being alive, and if more people were just thankful to be alive and tried a little harder, we'd all be happier and more peaceful. He is also in love, and i think the love is what brought out his serenity (in the song, not necessarily in the writers real life). |

I think this is about a girl who has no clue how much the boy cares about her because she is not so sure of herself to be honest. She is dangerous becasue she could hurt him, but I don't think it's deliberate.
"You're only pretty when you walk away and you act oblivious"
She is scared to be herself in from of him and when she walks away she doesn't have to try anymore.
"Don't call it a crush, you know Ilove you..."
I don't think she truely knows he loves her, I think she is too self conscious to believe that, and it hurts him that she doubts his feelings for her.
I think the end, where he says "girl you're so obnoxious" is saying that she is annoying because she is always trying to be someone she is not.
Everyone had their own interpretation, although I think everyone else could be right about how she is playing with the guys head, I think this could be a meaning too and it's just how i originally took it. |

The poeple in the song don't like themselves very much and want to get away from themselves, but obviously can't because wherever they go there they are. "I just want to walk away" as in walk away from myself. I dont really understand the "everybody here was fired" though. Aside that, this is a song I used to identify with a lot, just becasue I was sick of being around myself and wished I could just get away from me...not to sound all emo or anything, just my take on the song. |

I know this song doesn't need much lyric annalysis, but I love it and felt it deserved something anyway. I just think its soo cute, and I like the aspect of it that is just about how nice it is to simply be close to someone...something hopefully everyone can relate to. Plus sometimes one of the best places to be with someone is driving around in the car, makes me think of a good memory of driving around talking to someone all night...
Favorite line is definitely "I fell in love with you suddenyl, now theres no place i could be but here in your arms". Just makes such perfect sense to me...awesome song. =) |

Frist of all, I agree with the comment that this is not myspace-its for song meanings and not for "i love that song"s. Not to sound mean...im just not a myspace or lj fan.
Second of all, I know what FOB tara means, and i also love the way the group also says gents instead of guys or men.
Third, and most important, the song.
I think the song is about people taking things too deeply and he (the singer) is saying to not take them so seriously, just live. The old man is saying don't waste time with politics, just chase skirts. I think this means dont worry so much about education and thinking deeply, just do what feels right.
The chorus, "You want to be dressed in poetry..."
I think he is saying the girl wants to be all deep, mysterious, and metaphorical (like a poem) for the sake of beauty, but it just doesnt work for her ("but imagery doesnt fit"). And when he says "you want resizing but girl get a grip" i think he means that she wants to change who she is to be someone deeper and he is saying dont worry about it, just stay who you are.
To reinforce this, "I think that what I wrote is going over my head..." i think is saying that he is always looking for a deeper way to say things to make them romantic and interesting rather than just saying what he feels, and he gets so caught up in that he barely understands what he is saying anymore.
This is just my take, I could be totally off. If anyone had any comments it'd be appreciated. =) |

I looove this song...It makes me think of a lot of people I know. I think it is basically about people who are over dramatic. Thye pretend to be all mysterious, but make themselves obvious so people will try to figure them out. People who are truely secretive, in my opinion, don't want to be figured out and therefore don't put themselve out there as much. I think this song is making a talking about the people who pretend to be a big mystery for attention and to appear attractive. |

personally, i think this song is about someone who changed, whether becasue of drugs or just life. you want the person to come back to who they used to be, but sometimes no matter how much you try to open up to them they won't ("or he'll say he's just not the same and you'll begin to wonder why you came"). It is about someone that the person used to be close to becasue the person wants to be able to defend them and stick up for them, but at the same time barely knows them himself anymore ("step out to his defence without granting innocence"). Very powerful song, and i think anyone can relate to it on some level and it would make them think of someone in their life that they have lost or feel like they are losing. Definitely helped me get through some times... |
