I think it's about a person she had feelings and that big moment that comes when you have to face up to or confront the person whom you felt for but hurt you....she knows the outcome is only going to hurt her, but that hurt is "inescapable". It seems pretty easy to understand, so that's what I got. |

my sister told me to read the lyrics and listen to this song. This was NOT my year. I really relate to the lines" "Movies, TV screens reflect just what you expected....while you wonder what else you're doing wrong." It's just nice to hear a song I can relate to so much. Everyone has those feelings sometimes. It's nice to know it's not just me having a miserable time lately. |

I agree with blackmyeyes. It hurts terrible. It's hard just to listen to this song because it reminds me of my ex. I broke up with him, but he still broke my heart into more pieces. |

to me it's about a mentally abusive relationship. "the only times of my life the sun was meant to shine for me you made it pour down pour down with tears of rain." I was in a mentally abusive relationship at one point and this song makes me feel empowered/angry towards him now which was something I just couldn't achieve before. I was "encaged by your obsession with me" because he was obsessed and wouldn't let go. I like this song alot because of the message....he's not going to get to me anymore. |

I can see how it could any one of the meanings other people have said...but I think that's why I love music so much. The writer had their meaning when they wrote it. When they were said, the words may have had their own meaning. When I heard this song for the first time, I was just coming out of a depression. Time was standing still in my life, and the world kept spinning madly on. |

I don't know why I haven't commented on this song sooner. I've been listening to it for so long...I just never did. This song is over 9 minutes long...yet I listen to it over and over again. I don't seem to notice how much time passes. I'm fighting with an ex of mine. We faught several times in the past, maybe because we can't seem to actually make a "break" from each other. There's still a connection. I get that feeling sometimes when I listen to this song....then she brings him home...again and again. I love music too much. |

I like this version better than the orginal too. It gave me goosebumps. I think he's feeling the exact opposite of what he's saying. His heart is breaking because he still misses her. He's saying it because he wants to make her think he's ok too...even though he's definately still in love with her. It's such an intense feeling to deal with, and I think we all relate because everyone seems to go through this at some point in their lives. We always want our ex's to think we're doing just as well or better with the breakup than they are. But I can't say enough how much I love his version. |

| I've loved country music for so long...and I strayed for a little while. But I watched the CMA's last night and broke down into tears when Kellie sang this song. So powerful. Her mother left her when she was 2...and she co-wrote this song about her estranged mom. She's so strong for growing up through all that. I can't imagine not having my mom around, I've needed her so much. But the song is amazing, especially with her voice and I needed to comment. | |

I listened to this song on repeat this spring. I had two friends kill themselves within two months of each other. This song always seemed to be about a close friend of her's who killed themselves. One of the saddest lines I think is when she says, "I was there c'mon and tell me i wasn't worth sticking it out for" "dropped the bomb" is the perfect expression of the way it felt when I was called about each of my friends. This song is amazing. She's amazing. |

this song is awesome. I loved Breakaway, and unlike a lot of you, this song did NOT disappoint me at all. It's different, but she's singing some strong feelings and I love it. It's pretty obvious what the meaning of the song is, since it's written almost as a direct rant to a guy. But I really don't get some people thinking this sounds like Shakira or Avril. Shakira's voice is so way difference, and Don't Bother has an entirely different sound. The only similarity is that they both mentions rings that he gave here. haha. And as for the Avril thought...way off. Maybe because I listen to all three of them alot I can see it, but I would never make that mistake. Kelly's voice is distinctive from all that. |
