genevieveR is spot on. I was at a show where he told us about the story, but heres the best part:
the wife said to the husband that when she dies she will come back as a butterfly to let him know she was ok. She got sicker and died, and the family was really broken up about it. Then, a week later, the husband was laying on his bed at night unable to go on, and a butterfly came flying through the window, and landed on his chest. And butterflies never come out at night.

ok heres my take. It sounds to me like a soldier going off to war, and singing to his sweetheart back home. The lyrics about becoming crueler resonate, and at the "You don't need to form answers for questions never asked of you" says to me that the soldier doesnt have to defend the reasons that he is fighting, and touches on the idea that a lot of people take their wrath out on the soldiers in wars they dont agree with.
or it could be about something else. hell i dunno! |

like ppl said before, this song is about a dream the kid had, so its not supposed to be 'real', like hes not literally digging up someone. Its sung in metaphor, and in the naivety of a dream where magical things can happen if you try hard enough. Very nice song. |

if u see the clip for this song, it starts out ultra slow with the guys from the band walking around. Then towards the end with the 'i figured it out/i can see it again' parts they seem to go 3x normal speed.
I can totally see the xtc connection, and how after you come down you feel like you'll never feel like u did last night (and feel about others like u did then). Well, sometimes I feel like I've lost the 'real' me, then you do it again and get back to that place and feel alive and clear and all that. Great song |

How come everyone here is so left wing? I didnt agree with the invasion of Iraq but the war on terror is certainly a worthwhile cause (which was hijacked by Bush). I would hardly call Blair a dictator either (Here in Australia people have the gall to call John Howard a Nazi). Blaming ourselves for terrorism is only the path to more terror.
I like bloc party a lot but this song gives me the sh*ts. I'd rather be American or Australian than like the socialist, unemployed, laissez-faire French or Germans. |

I think this song is about the post-breakup period, and he is singing about getting together with the ex and wondering why she is coming on to him. There seems to be a desire to get away from the feelings, and the person feels like they are being held back by having this contact with their ex. |

I think this song is about a recovering alcaholic. Besides the obvious "im sober" and "another drink could save my life", theres the references to being drunk "What's this myth that said we'd have 'good times'" and the whole "nights gone" thing reminds me of the alcaholism being like the night before, and the recovery is like the hangover |
