does anyone else hear a little led zeppelin-"babe im gonna leave you" in this? the "free is too long, you know this is wrong" part, seems remiscent of the "i'll leave you when the summer time, i'll leave you when the summer time comes a rollin'" part in the zeppelin song. i just thought it was kind of similar, and the titles are also similar. possibly intentional? |

i dunno, to me this kind of seems like a prequel to Saint John. like, he steals the money and escapes America, and then in the next song (which i believe is saint john, correct me if im wrong) it reveals why he stole the money to escape. the last line of Saint John is "I keep on runnin' 'til the well runs dry", insinuating that he is willing to do whatever it takes to escape.
but im probably wrong, and its probably all about getting an immigrant home. |

reminds me of a story i read in english class, about a man and a woman living in seperate sides of Germany while the Berlin Wall stood, and what they went through to be together. great story, fantastic song. |

listen to the intro of heart of gold, and in your head sing "all alone not by myself, another girl bad for my health", and so on. its fits. the chorus doesnt fit however, but thats a good thing. i'd hate for this to be plagerism. then forget about chord progressions for a bit, and listen to how Anthony sings this song. isnt it reminiscent of Neil Young to you? im not saying its stolen and im not saying i dont like it. i love to play and sing it, its quite soothing. im just saying i get a neil young/heart of gold vibe from it.
p.s, a little interesting fact, in both songs, there is a 33 second intro, with similar chords, but an extra G chord in heart of gold. |

oh my god noooo. i love the chili peppers as much as anyone else here, but arent they losing their originality? i mean, listen to Dani California, and then Mary Jane's Last Dance or whatever it is called by Tom Petty. then listen to Desecration Smile, and Heart of Gold by Neil Young, you can actually sing Desecration Smile along with Heart of Gold. its sad. but i still love the Chili Peppers |

this song, i think is based on a verse in the bible (James 3:4 i think) in it is the line "your tongue is a rudder" and it is all about a "shipwreck" which is a metaphor for something else. Jesse and the boys use a version of this verse as a metaphor for troubled love. Some parts that i have deciphered are the ship is the relationship, the crash is an event in the relationship that troubles it. When they are in water dying they are wondering when they talk about when they will be found and where which i think would be the aftermath of the break-up, wondering what things will be like afterwards. Thsi song is very emotional and it gets me everytime. Especially the Jesse ft. John Nolan and Straylight Run version. Kills me. |
