| Foo Fighters – Walk Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Not sure, but it could be trying over and over at something. Like writing something down, then scrapping it. Literally crumbling up the piece of paper and tossing it into a pile. The pile gets bigger and bigger, essentially a paper mountain. The process itself is constructive. | |

@ herchenm: as drop2 indicated, the guest vocalist is Bob Mould, guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist for Hüsker Dü and Sugar. On the Foo Fighters documentary, "Back and Forth", Dave Grohl says, "When you meet someone that really helped you become the musician that you are, I really think it's important to acknowledge that. Bob's voice is so signature, and to have him come to my f****n' house and do it on my f****n' record, blows me away." This quote along with a very interesting insight as to the method of songwriting used by Grohl can be found on the documentary at 1:27:50. |

| Alabama 3 – Barricade (1789 - 1968- 2011) Lyrics | 14 years ago |

The French phrase, "liberté, égalité, fraternité, vis la police", translated into English is, "freedom, equality, brotherhood...screw the police" These lyrics, except for a few subtle differences, are the same as those in Alabama 3's "Hits and Exit Wounds" album's, "Ska'd for Life (Orbital Mix)". The song seems to be about revolution, but I hope someone can propose some more specifics. |

Yep, as Foggs said, it's "Jackie-O sunglasses". Have a listen to a live version and it's more evident. I understand the confusion, though. The studio cut annunciation is a bit odd. I suspect a direct result of a brit emulating a southern US accent. I love Alabama 3. While critics understandably try to pigeon-hole them into an amalgamation of genres, I would venture to say they are their own genre much like Red Hot Chili Peppers started their own. While there's "nothing new under the sun" with regard to music in that there are only a finite amount of chord progressions that are pleasing to the the human ear, Alabama 3 melds their influences into a whole new monster. It takes real artistic talent to pull that off. |

| The George Baker Selection – Little Green Bag Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| While I understand the song title is "Little Green Bag", I've always thought he was saying "little greenback" i.e. "money". I admit I'm wrong, but it just always sounded that way to me. | |
| Jars of Clay – Boys (Lesson One) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I agree with the above posts, but I can't help thinking about my initial impression when I heard this beautiful song: Lesson one: "Do not hide" Genesis 3:8-10 (KJV) "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." Lesson 2: "There are right ways to fight" Genesis 4:8 (KJV) "And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him." Lesson 3: "You are not alone" Even after Adam & Eve disobeyed and were thus cast out of Eden, God was still with them. "You can leave, you can run, this will still be your home" Seems like the moral of the parable of the prodigal son. (Luke 15:11-32) I may be wrong, but I suspect this song has dual meanings and influences as many Jars of Clay songs do. |

| Dave Matthews – Eh Hee Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I just saw DMB play this last night at the Smirnoff Music Center, Dallas TX. Dave prefaced the song with an explanation that [the style of the song] was an hommage to the khoi san (Africa). | |

LeArtist, I too, am a Christian. If this song speaks something to you that is contradictory of Jesus' teachings, or you feel is disrespectful of Jesus...read, "sacreligious", then you are right in not listening to the song. Your point is valid, and it is a personal decision, and therefore I respect that. That said, I also have a personal relationship with Jesus. He's imparted on me a distinct sence of his character. Jesus is a lot of things to a lot of people, but without a doubt he is our (everyone--whether they know it, or not) saviour. What I'm about to say may seem to some as "justification", but it truly comes from my heart. Jesus is not nearly as offended as we are. I imagine he smiles at this song. I'm quite certain that Jesus gets many a chuckle from us "silly humans", as I'm sure he sheds tears over our failures as a race. Now, back to the meaning of the song...As a fan of Dave Matthews, I know all of his (their) songs. The content of many of the songs suggest to me that Dave Matthews at least has an understanding of Jesus and even sympathy for Him. Just as no one truly knows the heart of his neighbor, I cannot tell you if Dave Matthews is a Christian or not. |
