I love how this song starts out nice and quietly with jus Bowie and a piano, then outta nowhere it's just BAM! alllll youu prettyy thiiings. sweet ass song. I think it's more about a new race of mutated superior humans, but Bowie deffinately knew what he was doing when he wrote the "homo superior" part. Nice way to mess with peoples' heads. haha |

yo is this song about him being in love with the girl, or the guy?? Its a fawkin awesome song either way. Kinda reminds of of "hold on to yourself" from Ziggy Stardust....i think these types of bowie songs were the pre-cursors to the early punk movement (kinda reminiscent of the ramones) |

Yeah u guys are deff. lookin way too into this song...its jus about ziggy and how these kids discovered his music, and how they cant let thier parents know, cuz who hasnt had to hide some music from thier parents at some point? especially someone like bowie (this was back in the 70s, after all) so yeah. i deff dont think it has anything to do with 'enlightenment' at all |

i think this song is really just about meditation, which the beatles were really big into at the time. Meditiation is a process which involves clearing the mind completely so as to achieve inner peice. And each verse is about how all his thoughts bounce around inside is head, before he just sends them out across the universe. Then in the last verse he says "It calls me out across the universe" like once he's achieved his inner peice, his mind is free to travel anywhere he wants it to. |

First off i wanna say...there are a lot of songs i think the white stripes could do kickass covers off. Most of the song is pretty straight forward and easy to understand. I was confused by the "beat love away" part at first, but i think what hes sayin is any love he would feel that wasnt for the girl would seem pointless and seeing love pains him, so he needs her sweet love to push away his feelings of longing. |

I agree with everyone who says this song is about wanting to get some, and telling the girl "just do it, it's instict". But when i first heard teh song, what it meant to me was more that he just wanted to be with the girl in general, and he's saying "It's so natural for us to be together, so JUST GET WITH IT!" anyone agree? |

I think this song is about being insecure and unsure of things. Like the sweater is a metaphor for something that protects you or makes you feel safe. However, as for the spoken parts of the song, The first person is like someone who you haven't talked to in a long time, but they act like you've been best friends the whole time. And the girl is like using the guy for a ride to the show, so she acts really friendly with the guy. jus my thoughts. |
