| Courtney Love – Never Gonna Be The Same Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this song is about being betrayed by someone or something you KNEW was true. You are never the same after that. "I can't believe in anything I know that Mary lied" is the reluctance to trust anything afterwards. The you gotta come over to me part is about how she will not put herself out there for people who will stab her in the back. They have to come to her if they want something from her (friendship). |

| I think it's about somebody who betrays you without even knowing it. | |
| Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's about hating what you don't understand. | |
| Vanessa Carlton – White Houses Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about all of those experiences that are so bad that you want to forget them but at the same time are so great that you still treasure them deep down, even though thinking about them makes you sick. | |
| Oasis – Live Forever Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think this song is about being free. (I just want to fly) It's about somebody who's had some tough breaks and bad experiences and is at times depressed- hey who isn't once in a while (Lately did you ever feel the pain/In the morning rain), but will never let that stop them from living life. (I want to live I don't want to die) It's about not buying into society's bullshit, norms and expectations, but making personal decisions and living by your own moral and intellectual standards. (Maybe I just want to breathe/Maybe I just don't believe) It's also about finding someone, regardless of who they may be, who sees you for who you are, which is liberating. (We see things they'll never see) * Noel's live version gives me the shivers. Easily one of the greatest songs ever written because of the feeling it gives you. Being cocky is alright as long as you have something to show for it. And damn, do they ever. |

| The Strokes – Heart In A Cage Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Aside from it's obvious being screwed over by the friends you loved meaning I think this song is about life in the big city. I myself am from one and at times you feel like you are in a prison. Living in the city can steal your soul. You can't really trust anyone, there's no community spirit, you can't open up to anyone (heart in a cage), and you're essentially alone in the middle of a mob of rushing strangers. Nature provides an escape, but it's not often enough you can pack a bag, get into your car and head up north to the lake or the mountains (I belong in a field). I think it also represents the need to escape a society driven by consumerism, with little time to sit and reflect on what is important. You want to just say "screw it" and take of but you can't. As for the "all those you love you mistrust" line I think that is about friendship. You know those friends you've grown to distrust over the years because they've grown into people you don't like and if you met them today you would never befriend them? Yeah. You're still loyal to them because of who they used to be and because of your history, but you wouldn't trust them as far as you can throw them. |

| Stone Temple Pilots – Big Bang Baby Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is about selling out, selling yourself short in love, and being messed up. I've also heard its about Courtney Love and her marriage to Kurt (and Scott's supposed lifelong crush on her) but who knows. It's probably a rumour, but I can see how the lyrics may be interpreted in that way: "I got a picture of a photograph of a wedding and a shell it's just a burning aching memory I never kiss and tell" - looking at pictures of a wedding and harbouring a secret admiration for someone but never telling anyone "there's a hole in your head there's a hole in your head " - reference to her band perhaps? "sell your soul and sign an autograph big bang baby it's a crash, crash, crash I wanna cry but I gotta laugh" - disappointment in her (both for being a sellout and marrying someone else) "is that what life and love is all about" - Love "for free nothing's for free take it away boys nothing's for free nothing's for free take it away boys " Anyways, I thought that was interesting. |

| Barenaked Ladies – Jane Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think you guys have it all wrong. Jane isn't toying with men or a free spirit. She's clearly too messed up to have a relationship. "Jane decided only cowards stay, while traitors run" refers to the men that stayed with her not because they loved her but because they were too insecure to be alone (cowards), and the men who betrayed her and left her (traitors). "Jane doesn't think a man could ever be faithful Jane isn't giving me a chance to be shameful" These two lines fully explain the song. Her lack of faith in men stops her from giving a potential relationship a try. She believes all of them are the same. "Jane is tired 'cause every man becomes a lovesick jerk" indicated she is tired of people and pretty much resigned to the idea of dating anybody. That's the way I see it because I'm pretty much Jane most of the time. |
