| Rush – The Fountain Of Lamneth Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
There is no question about the LSD undertones expressed in the lyrics of this fine piece of music. For more than 30 years I have wondered what "didacts and narpets" means. It seems to be some mixing of letters, albeit without the same decoding of order. "Addicts and parents" seem to be what the hidden message/title is. It is quite a heavy song and perhaps its full meaning will never be revealed; leaving us left to interpret freely and independently. |

| Rush – The Fountain Of Lamneth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The actual first human experiment and clinical discovery of LSD occurred on April 16, 1943. Dr. Hoffman was a brave man conducting self experimentation with his invention. This song indeed has many references to LSD. | |
| Old Crow Medicine Show – My Good Gal Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| No hidden messages here. This song is a murder ballad. | |
| Rush – Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Indeed this story is based on Objectivist theory. Apollo, the god of wisdom, and Dionysus, the god of love, are in conflict, just as mankind struggles with pure logic and the altruistic side. Objectivism describes this in several ways, such as applying pure logic or applying empathetic values to social problems. In all these cases, the word described in Objectivism is temperance. The solution is usually somewhere in the middle, such as the case with Cygnus. Nemt: Apparently, Cygnus takes another form (god-like evidently) and when he observed the fighting weeps for humanity. This ceases the fighting and he tells his story that neither extreme will resolve mankind's ills. He is then deemed the god of balance (temperance). Brat Moj's opinion is that "most of Ayn Rand's 'rantings' are just nuts. This is not my opinion. Objectivism does require a higher plane of thinkng, something Americans (I used to be one) have forgotten. |

| Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Folks, I think what I appreciate about Lynyrd Skynyrd was their rags-to-riches story. They were a bunch of high school buddies with real passion and talent for the music they enjoyed playing. There is nothing complex about their music or lyrics; just damn good southern rock. I was in high school when the plane crash occurred. This misfortune made the band even bigger than they were previously. Duane Allman died October 29, 1971, before the release of Pronounced in 1973. The Allman Brothers had a clear influence on the band, as evidenced in the dualing guitars and musical arrangement. Ronnie VanZant often dedicated the song to Duane Allman when it was played live, but the lyrics were not originally intended for him; just a simple message: I have to leave, it is my fault, do not blame yourself, I need my independence, things have changed and so have I. Sorry, to break the news for those that wish to perpetuate the myth. I want to remember these guys for what they were - a bunch of hard-living friends that made it big on pure talent and love of the music (without a boob job, gold teeth and chains, or Mickey Mouse Club to help). |

| Janis Joplin – Mary Jane Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Released in 1975, on a two LP set titled as "Janis." It is Track 5 on the second LP. As far as the lyrics, they seem accurate, and not phoney. The lyrics suggest Janis' means of getting a lift when feeling down; finding someone to sell her some weed... She enjoyed an ocassional toke, like so many Americans did before her and still do. Too bad it is still illegal in the US; no thanks to the Duponts and other industrialists linked to the oil and petro-chemical industries in the 1930s. Hemp has had a bad rap ever since. |

| Black Sabbath – After Forever Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It is clear from Ozzy's lyrics (old Black Sabbath) that he had a Christian foundation during his youth, probably one filled with fear, threat of eternal damnation, and similar superstitious dogma. Ozzy is clear about his beliefs in the lyrics of this song however, expressing his belief in a god and of changing his ways. Indeed their chosen band name, Black Sabbath, has carried some bad press from the x-tians, but this is to be expected from those that practice intolerance of anything non-christian. | |
| Janis Joplin – Mercedes Benz Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| For me, this songs not only represents the materialistic ills of her times, but it demonstrates the futility of praying to the "invisible man in the sky." Not only do superstitious people pray to their god in times of need, but also in times of want. A Benz, a color tv, and a night on the town. Classic! | |
