i think logical transcribed well the muffled conversation at the end of the song, which is really amazing, the last words of the song remind me of "the virgin suicides" soundtrack by Air, the very last song (13) is about the story of the movie, with a man talking with a distorted voice about the end of the Lisbon girls, it's quite the same and almost as powerful

i think this song is one the few converge songs where the music has much impact on me as the lyrics, these ones aren't really appealing, even if we know that jacob can mean very much by expressing little (at least for him to understand), but like jimmyfist said, the end riff of the song is just crazy and takes you to a higher level of pain, and ending on it without the drums and the bass is a really good idea (which reminds me of an amazing song by Circle Takes The Square, the 5th song of the "As The Roots Undo" album, ending "a cappella") . the first song that hit me hard on "you fail me"

by the way, i think rainwhenidie on page 2 is really right, there's clearly not just one way to understand APC's lyrics, but i think he got the main meaning of the song, telling that you can try to be nice to others, to avoid hurting them like before, but if you just stop to do it and do nothing to fix the things you broke, it hasn't any utility to play the good guy in front of the people

i think you're right in the beginning, it's just about somebody who's done bad things and pretends to be clean now, but some people don't know it and just praise this man like before. maynard (or the character in the song whatever) is just saying that he'd like to show the people that this man doesn't deserve their kindness, and he'd like to have revenge by himself by showing that this man's just a man or an asshole, and musn't be placed upon the others (pulling the halo down means i think to humanize a divinity, putting back on earth somebody who got an almost divine status) . but he doesn't denounce this man's actions yet, because as somebody said, maynard is a sadistic, and he prefers to see this man suffering from having to make his amends to the dead. that's all i think. it could be anybody else, like a girl who knows that the popular boy has a small dick, wishes to hurt him as he hurt her, but instead of shouting it to everyone, she sadistically likes to see other girls laugh at him on sunday mornings. it could even be about bush , semi-divinity because of his rank, but having a lot of amends to make, and a lot of people would like to have a funny time seeing him making amends to all the dead he made, and this time would be funnier than just pull his halo down and stabbing him in the papers. that's all. the song is just about the best way to enjoy a jerk's suffering.

i think people who get touched when listening to converge, and who like to experiment such strange and moving sensations when listening to hardcore, shoud listen to a small band from Luxemburg, which is called Defdump and used to tour with soulfly in France. This is my favorite hardcore band, the lyrics are really well written and the music is just crazy. i think you fail me is a big reproach about jacob itself, or about a girl who got him down and he's willing to hurt her badly. But i think it's not just simple violence like i'm going to ruin your life by bleeding you in my lyrics, i think these lyrics just try to explain what you feel when you can't explain things to someone not willing or not able to understand you, or even claiming you don't understand them. You fail me must be a sentence jacob heard a lot, but he knew that the problem wasn't him, so he probably went on living, until one day he had to explain that this girl was destroying herself and their relationship without any help from him, she was the one disconnected from reality, giving to much credit to her hope, failing herself by not admitting her true nature. this is to me a beautiful song, wounding me deeply any time i listen to it, because i used to be the one failing to my girlfriend and blaming her all the time, thinking i was better than her, cleverer than her, and the first time i heard this song, i couldn't stop thinking about becoming something else than an asshole, about stopping considering myself a poet, that has never sacrificed, that has never loved, failing myself by blaming the others for failing me... sorry for the mistakes but i'm french so there may be some
