| Lydia – We Clean Up So Well Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is very, very minor, but I think it's "I can't see this ever changing," not "I can see this never changes." | |
| Taking Back Sunday – Where My Mouth Is Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This is the only song I like on New Again. Oh, and it's about cocaine, for anyone who couldn't figure it out. |
|
| Taking Back Sunday – Sink Into Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is probably the worst TBS song ever written, including the first EP. | |
| The Dangerous Summer – Where I Want To Be Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Thank you for posting this! Some of these lines were killing me trying to figure out. It's just the second part of the chorus that's missing: "I'd reached my point, I let them down. I slept in the worst part of this town. You are my song, and you are where I want to be." |

| Lydia – It's In Your Blood Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I also think that it's about drugs/alcohol and that there is a relationship involved. It seems to me like they were both addicted and now one of them still is and the other is trying to pull them out of it. "I can't stay over you. It seems we drive forever but can never get away from here, just one more try." One or both of them can't get over the addiction. "So when it's always on your mind but you never speak of the name. It's in your blood and face" The one who is still addicted is either trying to hide it or not bring it up around the other, but the other knows. "This can't be how you live. It's like a ball and chain around your waist or this simple state. Your mind's sick again." I agree with whoever said these are the words of the person who is not addicted. "But if you make it different then we'll make our way to the surface" If the one who is addicted is willing to put the effort in, the other will help them out of it. "I still can't see you. The summer came and we got lost, all of us. You are nothing with out her. I still wont remember your face, the features mix too well with this alcohol." This seems to me like the deep caring on the part of the one who isn't addicted is not mutual because the other "won't remember [their] face." |

| Lydia – Fools and Luxury Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This version is from plyrics.com, it seems a lot more accurate. (I won't wait for words anymore) It's under to yourself, now I'm so so gone. It's under to yourself, now I'm so so gone. Well trains take me so far. But only in my brain and that's fine with me. How come you do, you do this thing. Well circle around and get yourself a better look, a better memory. And you fall down, you do. Well file down these streets lined with fools and luxury. We've sinned our best But nobody looked, yeah just Love me, love me this is how I'm forced to live, but I don't wanna live like that. I don't wanna live knowing second words. Well trains take me so far. But only in my brain And you do, you do I'll sing the words to you Well circle around and get yourself a better look, a better memory. And you fall down, you do I'll file down these streets lined with fools and luxury. And we've sinned but nobody looked, Nobody looked, yeah Love me, love me this is how I'm forced to live, but I don't wanna live like that. I don't wanna live knowing second words to me Expect me to seem free from your care From your problems He is the best now, she's under pressure, He is the best now, she's under pressure, these nights will go so quietly. |

| Underoath – Coming Down Is Calming Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It is incredibly obvious that the majority of this album and Define are about Spencer's struggles with his addictions, one rather blatant indication of which would be the phrase "coming down" in the title. He has openly admitted that he has/had a serious drug problem and I personally wouldn't interpret direct quotes from him as rumours. But that's just me. :) | |
| Underoath – Desperate Times, Desperate Measures Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| While this song is almost definitely about addiction I don't think it ends in suicide. Spencer has suffered numerous relapses with his drug/alcohol problems, but lines like "When this thing breaks...I pray that this is really happening" and "Let's hope this is short lived" show that even though he feels broken by his addiction he's still determined to break through it and keep trying. When he repeats "Let me out" at the end I think it actually shows that he WOULDN'T do something like commit suicide because he will not allow himself to remain trapped inside his addictions and will get himself out; to commit suicide would actually be to do the opposite. | |
| Brighten – Darling Nicotine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't think it's that mean to hypothesize that a song called "Darling Nicotine" could be about cigarettes or drugs, I mean really. Besides, it might not be about a personal experience; I'm sure everyone has at some point had a close friend who smoked or did drugs. Anyway, I personally think it would be easy to interpret this song both literally and metaphorical and it's up to the listener to take from it what they will, just as is the case with pretty much all lyrics. :) |
|
| Brighten – Treasure Island Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Has anyone else had the thought that this might be about a prostitute? Just the impression I get, hopefully someone else out there has also had that thought or it's going to be a little awkward for me ahaha. | |
| Thursday – Where The Circle Ends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
These lyrics have been pretty accurately interpreted so far so I don't really have much to add in terms of that, but just as an aside I've generally found that Thursday is a band that you really have to understand to get into so despite the fact that they're much more well known now they don't have too many "fake" fans, which I just find comforting because they are definitely a band I would get really angry about people claiming to like but not understanding. In regards to the "Book About The Letter A" bit, I've always taken that as meaning that the book could claim to be about anything in the world and it still wouldn't offer any insight into why the things described in the book - the things that records are being kept of - are happening. |

| Thursday – Telegraph Avenue Kiss Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Until very recently I thought the lyrics were "You're in my heart, in my head, round my neck" and I think I like it a lot better that way. | |
| Owen – Ugly on the Inside Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I found the demo! http://www.mediafire.com/?anmzhjzjwnz | |
| John Ralston – Gone Gone Gone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is a beautiful song. The only thing that bothers me about it is how he says "Pretend we never knowed" because he could have so easily said "Pretend we'd never known" or something similar that still mostly rhymed and was actually correct English, ahaha. | |
| The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Cat and Mouse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Does the amount of autopitch used on Ronnie's vocals in this song bother anyone else? It really, really, really, really bothers me. | |
| JamisonParker – Hold Your Breath Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It doesn't sound like Jamison because a guy named Alex Hovis sings half the song. Just so you all know. |
|
| Sydney – Jubert's Path of Destruction Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Wtf@triple post. | |
| Owen – Ugly on the Inside Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If anyone has an mp3 of this song I'm desperate to get my hands on it, since it's been deleted from the MySpace player I haven't been able to find it anywhere. | |
| Sydney – Jubert's Path of Destruction Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Pretty sure it's My face hits the windshield There's glass all around Make it out of the car "Scott, my God, what just happened?" Scott is the lead singer of Sydney. He was in a car accident back in 2004. |

| The Gorgeous – Banned From The Band Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm assuming these are from the liner notes, I've definitely noticed differences in the written lyrics and ones in the actual song. |
|
| The Gorgeous – Jamboree At The Jubilee Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I always thought it was back alleys and bed sheets, I fail. | |

| Fall Out Boy – I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Oh gee, never would have figured out it was about Pete's overdose. Thanks so much for the analysis. | |
| Fall Out Boy – I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It's Patrick the whole song, no doubt about it. FOB!_At_the_disco, I didn't say Fall Out Boy was ripping TBS off. I just said it was the first thing that came to mind when I heard/read the line because I have a dangerous TBS obsession. |
|
| Taking Back Sunday – My Blue Heaven (Demo version) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ahahaha the first time I heard this song I thought it said "All God's children go to hell." I should've been paying more attention... |
|
| Taking Back Sunday – Falling for You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
LOLOLOLOLOLOL. To the people who still think the song's TBS or Soco: Yeah, cause the voice definitely sounds even remotely like that of Andrew McMahon or Adam Lazzara. Faaaaaaaaaaaaail |
|
| Saosin – Penelope Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Chris and Cove sang it. Songs are what you take from them; even if it was originally written only about a goldfish, if one chooses to interpret it as being about a drug addict and therefore have it mean more to them then that's what it's about for them. |
|
| Fall Out Boy – I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The first thing I thought of when I saw "Joke me something awful" was "Jinx me something crazy" but that is just because I listen to Taking Back Sunday obsessively | |
| Fall Out Boy – I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is so sad that I cried just reading the lyrics before I'd even heard it | |
| Straylight Run – It's For the Best Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree with striker8844, there is no "right" way to interpret these lyrics, or really any lyrics for that matter. The song can mean something different to everyone. Also, I think soccerguyryan basically said it the way I interpret it. Good job, man. Very eloquent. P.S. Excellent fucking song. I want that SLR shirt that says "scared to death of eternity saved by grace but destroyed by naivety" on their merch site. |
